The American actor David Duchovny has just revealed why he had been so close to not playing in the pilot of “X-Files”, the series which would then become famous.
What if Fox Mulder hadn’t been played by David Duchovny? Duringan episode of the Literally podcast! With Rob Lowe, the American actor, who played the famous FBI agent in eleven seasons of the X-Files, revealed that he almost refused to play in the pilot of the series!
“I had gotten some scenes in a movie made by a friend of mine, and if I was piloting the X-Files, I had to cancel my participation”, first remembers the 60-year-old actor in remarks relayed by Deadline. “I told my agents that I didn’t want to do this, that the director was a friend and that I didn’t want to withdraw from her project.”
David Duchovny’s initial desire not to play in the X-Files pilot is therefore first and foremost a question of loyalty, but not that … The actor also wondered about the relevance of the Fox show. “I said to myself: this series is about aliens. How far can we go with that? The pilot is good, but in the end, we see the aliens or we don’t see them, and that’s it”, he tells Rob Lowe’s microphone.
“I was not interested in conspiracy theories and I was perfectly prepared to say that I was not piloting the X-Files because I was engaged on another project “, continues a Duchovny who will be finally convinced by his agents to respond positively to the invitation of the paranormal.
“It’s scary when you think about it. If I hadn’t opened the door, if I had gone left rather than right, none of this would have happened.”
