Be careful, spoilers. It is advisable to have seen season 2 of Who Killed Sara? before continuing to read this article.
Manolo Cardona, the interpreter of the hero Alex Guzman, had promised it: season 2 of Who Killed Sara?, A Mexican thriller that hit Netflix, was to provide all the answers to the questions left unanswered at the end of the first salvo episodes. It is now done… or almost.
The eight new episodes of Who Killed Sara? revealed the darkest secrets of the Lazcano family and the protagonists who have gravitated for years around it but especially on Sara (Ximena Lamadrid). We learn that she was schizophrenic and that she was being monitored by a psychiatrist.
But the biggest revelation about Sara is that she was born out of rape. Her mother was sexually abused by Abel (Antonio de la Vega), the mentally disturbed father of Marifer (Litzy Dominguez), Sara’s best friend. Locked in a psychiatric hospital, Abel revealed everything to Sara, who had discovered his existence before disappearing.
First helping him to escape from the asylum, Sara finally gets scared of this man and decides to undergo electric shocks not to end up like him. But Abel manages to find her and tries to kill her. It is then César Lazcano (Ginés Garcia Millan), who had an affair with Sara, who intervenes to kill him and buries him with his henchman Sergio in the garden. The skeleton found at the end of season 1 is therefore that of Abel, the father of Sara and Marifer.
“It was I who killed Sara”
After many twists and turns and increasingly complicated tracks to follow, Alex finally discovers who killed his sister Sara. And it is about her best friend Marifer, jealous of Sara, who cut the straps of her parachute and caused this fatal accident. Elroy had told Mariana Lazcano (Claudia Ramirez) on her hospital bed before she killed him that he hadn’t had the courage to do it himself despite her insistent request.
We understand then that Marifer, aware of Sara’s fragile mental health, was following the young woman and knew that Mariana had threatened her in relation to her pregnancy. In a stroke of madness, Marifer thus brought to the life of Sara without knowing that she was in reality her half-sister.
Years later, Marifer wanted revenge on the Lazcano family she believed was responsible for the disappearance of her mother Cristina, who worked for the family. She made a plan with her sister Clara (Fátima Molina) to be the surrogate mother of Chema (Eugenio Siller) and thus obtain leverage on Mariana Lazcano. But a video recording found proves that it was Abel, the father of Marifer, Clara and Sara, who killed his own wife.
Alex is mad with rage when he learns that it is Marifer, with whom he had an affair when they were younger, responsible for Sara’s death and wants to attack her. But the latter joined him in the premises of César Lazcano’s company, which had been set on fire and bloodied by the youngest of the family, Elisa. Eventually, Marifer, distraught and bruised after accidentally killing her other sister Clara, is stunned by the rubble and left for dead.
If Alex thinks this whole thing is finally behind him, it would seem that Marifer is a “false culprit”. In the closing minutes of the season 2 finale of Who Killed Sara ?, Nicandro (Matías Novoa), Rodolfo and Chema’s friend who resurfaced in these new episodes, makes a phone call to Dr. Alanis (Daniel Giménez Cacho), Sara’s psychiatrist.
In exchange for a substantial sum, Dr. Alanis lied to Alex about Sara’s past. Nicandro tells her that no one should know who really killed Sara and that they are involved in this story. In several flashbacks, we understand that Sara was selling drugs for Nicandro and that she had revealed everything to the parents of the young man when he became threatening.
Nicandro therefore had good reasons for wanting to invest in Sara’s life. Knowing that we still do not know what really happened after Sara’s accident, the end of season 2 of the series revives theories. Nicandro could very well have killed Sara in the hospital or helped Sara to escape to participate in the mysterious project of Dr. Alanis, mentioned in the last minutes of the finale.
As of yet, Netflix hasn’t renewed Who Killed Sara? for a third season but given the success of the Mexican thriller and this new end-of-season cliffhanger, it would not be surprising if new episodes of the series were ordered.
