Despite the important revelations, season 2 of Who Killed Sara? ends on a huge cliffhanger that leaves the door open to a potential season 3. What can we expect?
Be careful, spoilers. It is advisable to have seen season 2 of Who Killed Sara? before continuing to read this article.
The second season of Who Killed Sara ?, available on Netflix, saw many revelations about the Lazcano family and the murder of Sara (Ximena Lamadrid). We learn that it was her best friend and half-sister Marifer (Litzy Dominguez), who severed the straps of Sara’s parachute, causing the accident that cost her her life.
But a final twist at the end of season 2 of the Mexican thriller reshuffles the cards and brings up new questions. If Netflix has not yet announced the renewal of the series, certain details open the door to a possible season 3 for new twists.
Is Marifer really dead?
Marifer had mounted a sordid plan against the Lazcano family by pushing her sister Clara (Fátima Molina) to become the surrogate mother of Chema (Eugenio Siller) to gain leverage on the matriarch Mariana Lazcano. The young woman believed that the Lazacano were responsible for the disappearance of her mother Cristina, who worked for the family.
But Marifer is stunned when she realizes that it was her father Abel who killed her mother and that Sara was actually her half-sister. The fate persists when she accidentally kills her other sister Clara and Marifer tries to be forgiven by Alex (Manolo Cardona), Sara’s brother who was investigating her disappearance. But she is surprised by the flames in the premises of the Lazcano company, set on fire by Elisa Lazcano (Carolina Miranda).
Marifer is then stunned by the rubble and left for dead. However, the series does not show us its corpse and the Mexican thriller which has its eye on the telenovela side with its many twists and turns could very well bring Marifer back in a potential season 3.
In the dying moments of the season 2 finale, Nicandro (Matías Novoa), a former friend of Rodolfo and Chema who used to deal drugs with Sara, calls Dr. Alanis (Daniel Giménez Cacho), the young woman’s psychiatrist.
We understand that Nicandro paid the doctor to lie to Alex about his sister Sara’s past. He even demands that the psychiatrist not tell anyone who really killed Sara or that they are involved in this story.
The young woman took part in a secret project of Dr. Alanis, which seems to have to do with the electroshocks she underwent to treat her schizophrenia. Did Nicandro have a role to play in this affair? Did Sara die on the operating table?
Or did Nicandro kill Sara in the hospital after her accident? He had good reason to be angry with her since she had revealed her trafficking in mastiffs to her parents. The intentions of Nicandro, who was close to Marifer then to Alex, were very vague during season 2. A third burst of episodes could clarify this mystery.
The Lazcano finally judged
They have always managed to escape justice despite their crimes but a potential season 3 could see César (Ginés García Millán) and Mariana Lazcano finally behind bars. The Lazcano family are responsible for a lot of the tragedies on the show and it is time they paid.
Even though he poses as dead and lives in hidden luxury, Cesar Lazcano could return to save his son Chema, who confessed to the murder of Abel while it was his father who killed him to protect Sara.
For her part, Mariana tried to steal Sofia and Caesar’s baby and killed Elroy (Hector Jimenez) on his hospital bed. Very religious and indulging in self-mutilation, Mariana might finally want to atone for her sins and turn herself over to the police.
What if Sara was still alive?
This is one of the great theories surrounding the Mexican thriller. Despite its title, the series could hide a bigger secret: the fact that Sara is still alive. Even if the culprits appear, no flashback reveals what really happened after the accident of the young woman, in the hospital or after.
Some even wonder about the financial means and knowledge in technology of Alex upon his release from prison. The help he received could have come from Sara, who could have run away and hid all these years to prepare his revenge.
