We’re here with some great news today, my friends!
We’re about to get a heaping helping of GOOD things that are happening in the world right now instead of all the BAD news that we’re constantly bombarded with.
Are you ready for a big dose of positivity?
Let’s hear from folks on AskReddit!
“I’m a high school counselor and high schoolers today think a hell of a lot more compassionately, empathically, and globally than I did when I was in high school (20 years ago).
I’m very hopeful for the future.”
“I finished my Master’s degree on Wednesday. I’m the first woman in my Hispanic family to have one and I’m a single mom.
The last three classes were extraordinarily difficult for me due to my mental health issues and financial situation. However, my instructors worked with me and supported me through out them.”
“Greater one-horned rhino or Great Indian rhinoceros population stands at around 3,700 individuals, a significant increase from around 200 remaining at the turn of the 20th century.
Strict protection and management action from Indian and Nepalese authorities and their partners are responsible for bringing the species back from the brink.”
“Poverty and child mortality at minimum level, while democracy, education, vaccination and literacy at the maximum.”
“The James Webb Space Telescope!
It’s the biggest, most powerful telescope we have ever sent to space and is going to provide us some AMAZING insight into the universe, mainly what happened at the Big Bang and potential signs of life on other planets.
It’s been years in the making and is currently preparing to produce its first images, including an updated version of the Hubble Deep Field which is currently the greatest image humanity has ever taken.
We’re on a new frontier of human knowledge and I’m personally very excited.”
“New Lyme disease vaccines are on the way, accelerated thanks to the knowledge learned from making the Covid vaccine.”
“Lots of advances have been made with LED technology to the point where indoor grow lights for food are becoming cost effective to operate, especially in colder climates.
Previous indoor growing was reserved for cannabis as it had a high dollar to pound yield. Now with high efficiency LEDs, panels that rival 1,000W bulbs only consume around 90W and last for tens of thousands of hours!!
Major step towards improving the world hunger situation.”
“The Olive Ridley project is rehabilitating and releasing Olive Ridley and other sea turtles back into the ocean.
Sea Turtles get trapped in lost or dumped nets and fishing lines and often drown.
They mistakenly eat plastic debris which looks similar to jellyfish that they eat and then cannot regurgitate.
Only approximately 1 in 1000 baby turtles makes it to adulthood. Olive Ridley turtles need to survive until they are around 15 before they reproduce. Green sea turtles can only reproduce when they get to around 25-30 years old. Once they are ready to reproduce they still struggle as electric lights on land confuse them.
So chances of the population growing is vanishingly small and this charity does a lot to help them.”
“The world population is excptected to decline by 2 billion by 2100, peaking at 9 billion in 2064 and going back down to 7 billion by 2100.”
“As of this week, I heard that about a quarter of Earth’s seafloor has been mapped.
It doesn’t sound like much but it is and this mapping will help the world massively in solving giant environmental challenges like sea pollution and climate change.
This is actually a pretty good start.”
“Working from home is much more widespread now than in the past, and it’s likely to stick around. One of the few good things to have come out of the pandemic.
Good riddance to commuting and earlier starts, it’s a total waste of time and money (and for me makes me tired, as I am not a morning person; I rarely go to bed before 2 am).”
“A lot of western countries want to put an end to Putin’s war in the Ukraine so they are contributing money/resources, intel, munitions and sanctions.
Putin’s “special military operation” has been horrendous and the Russian military has demonstrated a callous disregard for human life.”
