The underrated drama follows Estee Shapiro (Shira Haas), a young Hasidic Jewish woman living in Brooklyn who is forced into an arranged marriage with Yankee Shapiro (Amit Rahav). Unhappy with her life, Etsy runs away from Brooklyn to Berlin, where her estranged mother lives. It’s a spiritual and cultural awakening for Etsy, as she comes to love life outside the ultra-Orthodox community. However, Yankee and his cousin, Moishe (Jeff Wilbush), travel to Berlin to find Etsy and bring him back to New York.

unconventional is a thoughtful, compelling series about a community that is rarely portrayed in the media and features a sensational performance from Haas. The series only has four episodes, meaning it can be completed in a short amount of time.

Maid (2021)
