While the channel broadcasts tonight at 9 p.m. the last two unreleased items of season 2, will we see a sequel to the contemporary adaptation of the famous SF novel led by Gabriel Byrne, Léa Drucker and Daisy Edgar-Jones?

Tonight ends on Canal + the broadcast of the unprecedented season 2 of The War of the Worlds. Created by Howard Overman, this ambitious Franco-British and Canadian production illustrates a world devastated by an alien attack, and the attempts of a small group of survivors led by a neuroscientist to try to understand the origin of these invaders and to organize to survive.

While Bill Ward (Gabriel Byrne) was developing a virus capable of destroying aliens, Emily (Daisy-Edgar Jones), blind from birth, discovered that she had a strange connection with them, having allowed her to regain her sight. She then agreed to serve as a guinea pig for the scientist to test the virus on her own body, not without consequences.

But within the group of survivors, another boy, Sacha (Mathieu Tortoling), having a similar bond with the aliens, committed a brutal crime on one of his peers, which created a terrible fracture within the group.

While Catherine (Léa Drucker), Sophia (Emilie de Preissac) and Zoé (Pearl Chanda) finally join the other survivors and prepare for the ultimate attack against the aliens, they are helped by Isla (Aimee-Ffion Edwards), the ‘one of them having decided to betray her camp in the face of the atrocities committed.

But while Bill understands the origin of the catastrophe and now becomes the sole holder of the fate of humanity in his hands, the outcome of the final episode has in store for us a narrative twist as unexpected as it is bittersweet. And if Canal + and has not yet announced the green light for a third season, this season finale could well serve as a conclusion to the post-apocalyptic series.

It will therefore take a little patience before knowing if this chapter II, entitled “The Confrontation“, will definitively end the adventure or if the British showrunner still has surprises in store for us in future episodes …

War of the Worlds season 2, Monday June 7 at 9:05 p.m. on Canal + and available in full on myCANAL and Canal + Séries
