Vin Diesel is set to return for a fourth film in the “Riddick” franchise, titled “Riddick: Furya.”
As reported by Deadline and Variety, a new installment in the Riddick saga is in preparation! Ten years after the last installment, Vin Diesel will reunite with director David Twohy and reprise the role he first played in 2000’s Pitch Black. The hit sci-fi franchise then continued with two sequels, The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004 and Riddick in 2013.
The Fast & Furious star will also produce the film, titled Riddick: Furya, with his production company One Race Films alongside Samantha Vincent, while David Twohy will direct the new installment from his own script. The worldwide sales of the film will be launched next week in Berlin.
According to the official feature description, in Riddick: Furya, the protagonist will finally return to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and imagines left in ruins by the Necromongers. But there, he will meet other Furians fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of them look more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.
David Twohy expressed himself on the subject in a press release announcing the project:
Our legion of fans have been demanding it for years and now we’re finally ready to honor their call to action with Riddick: Furya. My collaboration with Vin and One Race has lasted for 20 fruitful years, because together we have created three films, two video games, an anime production and animated comics for the Internet. This new big-screen event will be a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we can finally explore Riddick’s genesis.
In addition to the Riddick projects, Vin Diesel is obviously at the head of the Fast & Furious saga which has just unveiled a teaser for its tenth opus. The nearly four-minute video was uploaded early Friday morning, racking up more than 5 million views in just nine hours. Fast X will hit theaters on May 17, just two weeks after Guardians of the Galaxy 3, in which Vin Diesel once again lends his voice to the iconic Groot.
