After reaching the second round of the US Open after the abandonment of the German Dominik Koepfer, with 6-3 and 3-2 on the scoreboard, Carlos Alcaraz referred to the dust that has raised the Rubiales case. Asked about the matter, the still number one in tennis – he will lose it at the end of the tournament, to the benefit of Novak Djokovic – regretted what happened and was as brief as he was forceful. Without hesitation, he censured the behavior of the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) – suspended since Monday by FIFA, the highest international football body – during the final ceremony of the World Cup recently won by the women’s team in Australia.
“Yes, I have followed the matter. Obviously it is something that has caused a lot of talk and in Spain much more. We are here and we don’t know everything that has been formed there, but the fact that it has reached here already tells you the magnitude it has”, introduced the 20-year-old from Murcia. “I will be honest. My opinion is that these are attitudes that a high position does not have to show. That’s the only opinion I’m going to give on the matter. Let’s hope it gets fixed soon as the women’s team has achieved a historic achievement and not being given as much credit for what happened is a shame. That is my only reflection,” he conveyed.
Alcaraz is probably today the most internationally renowned young Spanish athlete. Specifically, the episode of the manager’s kiss to the player Jennifer Hermoso coincided with the day he was going to play the final of the Cincinnati Masters, against Novak Djokovic. The previous day, the Murcian had dedicated a message of support to the national team through the camera: “Come on girls, go for the World Cup! Long live Spain!” After the triumph, he expressed through his social networks: “Come on! Congratulations, champions!”
