In comparison, the NSO reports that the corresponding figure published on the British government’s website for England and Wales was 9,288.

The data also show that the number of coronavirus-related deaths in nursing homes almost doubled in the five weeks during which the NSO records Covid-19 statistics.
The number of deaths in nursing homes doubled compared to four weeks earlier, when the first deaths from Covid-19 were recorded, and there was an increase of 72.4% in hospitals and an increase of 51.1% in private homes, according to the ONS.
The greatest number and proportion of deaths among Covid-19 occurred in people aged 75 to 84 years.
The highest number of deaths involving the coronavirus has been recorded in London, while the lowest number has been recorded in the north-east of England.
