After a long time of interstellar vacuum in terms of video game releases, we have finally arrived in a tunnel of arrivals of new colorful adventures including the very (very very) awaited Elden Ring. We’ve been talking about it for five years and the community of hardened gamers has been waiting for it, today it’s within our reach and so we quite logically suggest that you talk to you a bit about this game event.
1. The basis of the universe was created by George RR Martin
Rather than FINALLY work on ending his literary saga of the Iron Throne and giving readers a not disappointing ending to Game of Thrones, George RR Martin worked with studio artists FromSoftware on the basics of the world of games. It doesn’t happen every day that a world-famous author works on writing a game and just for that we want to try.
2. It’s made by a talented studio
If you don’t know the studio FromSoftware, you will discover a singular and original universe that transpires in all their productions. Well it’s generally dark, mature, violent and tinged with “hard heroic fantasy” games. The studio has proven itself in the past by making a slew of cult games: the series of Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Bloodborne or the excellent sekiro and really has nothing more to prove.
3. It’s the studio’s first open-world game
It could be as scary as it was exciting when you know the construction of the studio’s games to know thatElden Ring was going to be in the open world, but obviously from the first feedback on the game the passage on this model seems to be a great success. The game’s map looks huge and provides countless activities to do and desolate places to visit. And a lot of places to die too, because we haven’t talked about it yet but you will die often.
4. The game’s ratings fell and such a score hadn’t happened in years
The website Metacritic lists all the ratings from the international specialist video game press and averages them, generally it’s a good indicator to get an idea of the overall appreciation of a game. And we’re not going to beat around the bush Elden Ring made the counters explode, posting a score of 97/100, a mark that no game had obtained on its release since the very famous Red Dead Redemption 2. Concretely the press is unanimous, it is a slaughter.
5. The difficulty seems a little better balanced…
Those who know the studio’s games know, FromSoftware makes games that are on the list of hardest video games of all time. Death is at every corner of the game, the bosses are ultra powerful and even the enemies that all look ridiculous can knock you out in two shots. However Elden Ring seems to have somewhat balanced the difficulty on the main plot in order to bring a new audience into its productions.
6. … But make no mistake, we’re going to suffer
So yes, the game is going to be overall “a little easier” than the studio’s other productions on the main adventure thanks to certain mechanics (the summoning of bots or players to help), but according to the feedback from testers it’s still a game in which we’re going to get busted and raged a million times. And yes, it’s part of the fun of the game, to learn from your mistakes. Learning in pain, on the other hand.
7. As in the studio games you can create your character from A to Z
Apart from Sekiro, most of the studio’s games allow you to create your avatar by choosing its physical appearance but above all its specialty, starting from a number of predefined character classes. You want to make a warrior, a magician, an archer, a pilgrim… The possibilities are numerous and above all you will be able to improve the aspects you prefer during your adventure. Reason enough to play the game several times, if ever you are a masochist.
8. The art direction looks (once again) lavish
FromSoftware is recognized for making games that are graphically quite dated, not always very fine in their graphics, but the real strength of the developers is their ability to offer an always incredible artistic direction. The game looks exotic and beautiful to play through and it would almost be a beautiful melancholy ride if everything living in the game wasn’t trying to butt us.
9. There will be multiplayer
Well don’t expect to roam the desolate wastes on horseback with one of your buddies, but there will be some form of multiplayer in Elden Ring. On the boss fights we can summon a friend or a stranger to lend us a hand, but the collaboration can extend a little more and we can advance together longer than in the other games from the studio. However, don’t expect to do the whole game for two, it’s an adventure that will be lived mostly alone with your fear.
10. If this is your first From Software game, this seems like the right place to start
We’re just going to end with that, but if you haven’t played any studio games and want to discover the delirium, Elden Ring seems to be ideal to jump on the bandwagon. The fact that it is in an open world will make it possible to attenuate a feeling of blockage that one could feel in a souls and the fact that the difficulty has been lowered a bit may prevent some people from getting discouraged. From experience we want to tell you to hang on, rarely has beating a boss been as rewarding as in a game from this studio.
