At a time when we still see the same heads without hair on TV for thirty years, we are delighted to see new faces.
M6 understood this well. This is one of the reasons that led the chain to recruit Mary Portolano. Trained as a sports journalist, he is also and above all a person of quality. A bit like Mac Lesgy but better, sorry Mac. Already, it is not called “Mac” so it is necessarily better.
1. She loves cakes.
We don’t really know that much, in fact.
But hey, to present The best pastry chef“I guess it’s better not to be diabetic. Because yes: after Faustine Bollaert and Julia Vignali, it is therefore Marie Portolano who takes control of the show. And unsurprisingly, she is perfect in this new role for her and the show is a hit.
A little tiring to have so many qualities but hey, let’s admit.
2. She loves football.
Yes, if it is a quality.
Journalist at Bein Sports at first, then on Canal then, Marie Portolano proved that she mastered her subject. So football. And even the sport as a whole. She even presented the mythical “ football day“, which is somewhat the ultimate goal of any French-speaking football journalist.
His only fault is to support Strasbourg but hey otherwise apart from that it’s faultless.
3. She has a label.
The first record Marie bought was “Scatman”. And yet, she is a fan of music.
Even hard-rock, if you want to be more precise, and especially Rage Against The Machine. This is undoubtedly one of the inspirations that pushed her to create her own label in 2009: “Santo Muerte”. Yes, the name is too cool. A label that produces… Well yes rock, I admit it wasn’t a very hard question.
4. She’s funny.
In his shows, on Insta or on Twitter: the valves fuse.
Very second degree and very cowardly, Marie is funny. It’s like that.
Esprit Canal, all that. Gap. Second degree. ‘Cule a sheep.
5. She has a famous husband.
Good at the same time what, it is better to be funny what when you are married at 50% of the Palmashow.
6. She likes David Cronenberg.
Passionate about cinema, she could have specialized in the field. She did an internship in the editorial staff of Première, and she actually wrote a memoir on David Cronenberg, to whom we owe incredible masterpieces like The Fly, ExistenZor A History of Violence… Class.
7. She is a fan of true crime.
The show she would dream of hosting?
” Let the accused enter“.
Because Marie Portolano “ is serial killer fan“.
8. She made an essential documentary.
Last year, his documentary (co-directed with Guillaume Priou) ” I’m not a slut, I’m a journalist” made a lot of noise. This investigation into sexism and harassment of women in the world of sports journalism has shocked all who have seen it. A big slap. Dozens of women’s testimonies (Estelle Denis, Nathalie Iannetta or Isabelle Ithurburu among others) and an alarming report on the physical and psychological violence still present in a good number of newsrooms.
The documentary is terrifying but absolutely essential. It made it possible to dismiss dozens of bosses/journalists from different media. It allowed victims to dare to testify. It took crazy courage for Marie Portolano and the others to dare to open up, to dare to name the culprits and risk their careers, no more and no less.
The documentary has won a number of awards at festivals.
Well done and thank you.
9. She is clumsy
“You take me to a cocktail party, I’m bound to have something stuck between my teeth and upset Vincent Bolloré » she admits to Inrocks in 2016.
It’s cuter than anything. And then in real life, who wouldn’t dream of bumping into Vincent Bolloré at a party?
10. She has lots of plans.
A new documentary on sexual violence, a talk show on M6, the sets of the Europa League, probably a new season of the best pastry chef and surely lots of other stuff like going to buy bread or going to see the next Doctor Strange.
We have therefore not finished seeing Marie Portolano on M6 and everywhere else.
We just hope that one day she will release her first hardrock album.
