The Witcher: good news, season 2 is better than season 1!

Geralt de Riv returns to our screens this Friday, with the release on Netflix of season 2 of The Witcher. So, are these new episodes better? We tell you everything.

What is it about ?

In this live adaptation of the literary saga of The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia is a mutant monster hunter who fights to find his place in a world where humans are often more vicious than beasts.

Who is it with?

The three main characters of the saga are back in this season 2, camped by Henry Cavill (Geralt), Freya Allan (Ciri) and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer). These new episodes will introduce new protagonists that we tell you about here, including the highly anticipated Vesemir, played by Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve).

Number of episodes seen in this season 2: 6 out of 8.

Well worth a look ?

Season 1 of The Witcher was particularly eagerly awaited by fans of novels and video games. This live action adaptation was able to count on a dream headliner – Henry Cavill – and a comfortable budget.

But that was not enough to convince the press and part of the Netflix audience. The fault in particular with a scenario sometimes convoluted which mixed three different eras. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has promised fans that the season 2 timeline will be more collected. And that’s good.

To get to the point: yes, these new episodes of The Witcher are better bills, both visually and scriptwriter. We revel in this season 2 which plunges us a little more into the abundant world imagined by Andrzej Sapkowski, between his prophecies, his political intrigues and his monsters.

By taking Ciri under his wing, Geralt will make some amazing discoveries and so will we. You will know a little more about the Princess of Cintra, her real powers, her role in the battle between humans and elves… The latter will also take on more importance, with the introduction of an important character who risks to change the game.

The arrival of Geralt and Ciri in Kaer Morhen, where the hero grew up, is also an essential moment of this season 2. We meet Vesemir, his mentor played a Kim Bodnia in Hulk Hogan mode (we are not very convinced by his look), and his companions Witcher.

If you haven’t seen the Wolf’s Nightmare animated prequel, then don’t count on The Witcher to tell you about this location’s past and why Vesemir can no longer create new Witers. But we can easily understand that man is ready to do anything to create new hunters, at a time when Watches continue to arrive on Earth (you will find out how and why).

On the bestiary side precisely, season 2 reveals very beautiful creatures, each as frightening as the next. And even if the fights are quite rare, the choreographies are good bills. Overall, don’t expect to see a lot of action in this sequel. We watch The Witcher above all for its atmosphere, its fantasy universe (which you can stick to or not), its music and its characters …

Speaking of characters, the new season mostly focuses on Ciri and Geralt’s relationship, leaving Yennefer to handle a side quest and more personal. It will therefore be necessary to be patient before seeing the two lovers transfixed again in the same scene …

On the 6 episodes given to the press, we can say very clearly that this season 2 of The Witcher corrects the errors and clumsiness of writing of the first, without necessarily offering us the full of action. Now is the time for revelations, the introduction of key characters and new political intrigues that herald a hopefully epic end to the season.
