While the final season of “The Walking Dead” will be offered in US + 24 on OCS Choc from August 23, discover five anecdotes about Daryl Dixon, the character played by Norman Reedus!
Unmissable character of The Walking Dead, Daryl – the lone wolf embodied in the series by Norman Reedus – now holds the rank of main hero since the departure of Rick Grimes. A status that owes so much to the personality of the latter – loyal, faithful, courageous – as to his immense popularity with fans of the show.
While waiting for the broadcast of the final season of the series (from August 23 on OCS Choc), here are 5 things to know about Daryl Dixon!
1. IT DOES NOT EXIST IN COMIC BOOKS
Rick Grimes, Michone, Negan, Alpha … all are characters from the comics The Walking Dead of which the series is a more or less faithful adaptation. Conversely, Daryl holds a very special place in the show since the character does not appear in the comic!
Created for the needs of the television adaptation, Daryl even paid himself the luxury of occupying a central place in the show, to the point of being now considered its main protagonist. Involved in the production of the series, author Robert Kirkman has also said in an interview that the main challenge of adapting the comic is how to integrate Daryl into the plot.
2. HE HAD TO DIE FROM THE START OF THE SERIES
It sounds completely crazy, but Daryl wasn’t meant to be a central character in the show. Worse: he should even have been killed in the first season! Presented as a racist and hostile character in his early days, the latter finally found the right path, a change in attitude that then allowed Daryl to win the hearts of fans of The Walking Dead to the point of being considered “impossible to kill” by the producers of the show.
3. HIS SEXUALITY
Daryl’s sexuality has been the subject of debate for many years. While several romances have involved characters from The Walking Dead Over the seasons, Daryl has remained single since the start of the series. Many fans then wondered about the sexual orientation of the latter.
But it was finally on the occasion of one of the special episodes broadcast at the beginning of the year that an answer was finally provided: his meeting with Leah thus confirmed his heterosexuality, a romance far from fleeting. besides since Norman Reedus suggested that the road of the two characters could cross again in the near future.
4. HE WILL SOON BE THE STAR OF HIS OWN SPIN-OFF
The final season of The Walking Dead won’t really mark the end of the series. While an anthology entitled Tales of the Walking Dead will soon see the light of day, the AMC channel has also confirmed the production of a spin-off dedicated to the tandem Daryl and Carol.
If we do not yet know what the plot of the series will be made of, remember that the two characters saw their friendship shattered during the special episodes of season 10, when wounds from the past caused resurface buried grudges.
Will the two friends manage to put aside their differences during their solo adventures?
5. HE KILLED 49 PEOPLE
It would be impossible to total the number of undead killed by Daryl throughout the series: starting from the assumption of at least one zombie killed per episode, the total number of dead would therefore rise to 147 minimum.
Specialized sites have nevertheless been able to count the number of humans killed by Daryl during his adventures: from cannibals to Whisperers through the Saviors of Negan, the latter would thus total 49 “victims” according to our colleagues from Screenrant, which makes him the second deadliest character in the entire series behind Rick Grimes (54 dead).
