Written by David E. Kelley, the creator of “Big Little Lies” and directed by Susanne Bier, the series “The Undoing”, available on OCS, brings together Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant for the first time. Focus on the enigmatic credits.
This is the new thriller imagined by David E. Kelley, the creator of Big Little Lies. In The Undoing, adapted from the novel The First Impressions of Jean Hanff Korelitz, Nicole Kidman plays Grace Fraser, a renowned New York therapist, who finds herself in turmoil when her husband, Doctor Jonathan Sachs (Hugh Grant), is accused of murder. Halfway between social drama and crime thriller, the series follows the descent into hell of this family having to face the judgments and rumors of the world around it.
Each episode opens with a mysterious opening credits in which a little girl, with red hair and curly, has fun on her own. It is evident that these images evoke the character played by Nicole Kidman, Grace Fraser. It is precisely the actress herself who interprets a new version of Dream a Little Dream of Me, a classic sung for the first time by Ozzie Nelson in 1931 and since taken over by Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day.
Discover the credits of the series:
Interviewed by AlloCine, the filmmaker Susanne Bier explained that it was “crucial that Nicole Kidman performs this song“.”I find that it brings something to the character of Grace, a detail that does not necessarily appear in the series, but which is more like an intuition for the viewer., she specifies. I don’t want to say too much. But Nicole Kidman didn’t want to at first, then she finally agreed. And I think she enjoyed the experience. “
The most attentive will have noticed, many subliminal images sprinkle the credits, like these raindrops that turn into spurts of blood. Is this openness a clue to Grace Fraser’s past or true nature? Case to be continued.
