Both sequel and reboot of the film released in 2016, “The Suicide Squad” introduces new characters and recalls some old ones. But not the Joker played by Jared Leto. Explanations with James Gunn.
With Harley Quinn and Deadshot, it was one of the headliners of the Suicide Squad released in 2016. Strongly criticized by part of the public (but defended by the editor, who claims that his performance was damaged in post-production ), the Joker played by Jared Leto is not back in the new film signed James Gunn.
Neither was he in Birds of Prey, except for a flashback composed from footage from the first Suicide Squad. While he recalled a few alumni including Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Amanda Waller and Rick Flag, James gunn explains why the Joker is not one of them.
And the answer is very simple: “The Joker is not traditionally part of the Suicide Squad”, he specifies. “It’s not even in the comic books so I didn’t see why we would need it. I think Harley Quinn has turned the page on the Joker [dans Birds of Prey, ndlr] and that she is much more interesting without him around her. The focus is really on Harley and I had a lot of fun with her, and Margot taking over the role. “
If the possibilities are still numerous, for Margot Robbie to return in the guise of Harley Quinn (in a new Suicide Squad, a sequel to Birds of Prey or an adaptation of Gotham City Sirens), the future of Jared Leto in Joker is more blurry. Seen recently in the new Justice League cut by Zack Snyder, who had called him back for the reshoots, he is currently not associated with any DC project. Unless a surprise.
