Expected on July 28 on our screens, “The Suicide Squad” unveiled its synopsis and the place where the action will take place: the island of Corto Maltese. A name undoubtedly familiar to those in the know of the DC Universe.
Head for the island of Corto Maltese for the Suicide Squad taken over by James Gunn. Expected on July 28 on our screens, the film by the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, which presents itself as much as a sequel as a reboot of David Ayer’s opus, has unveiled its official synopsis and confirmed the location in which the action would take place.
“Welcome to Hell – aka Belle Reve, the highest-fatality prison in the United States of America. Where the worst villains are held, who will do anything to get out – including joining the super secret and the super sleazy Task Force X. Deadly mission of the day? Assemble a nice collection of crooks, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psychopath: Harley Quinn. Arm them heavily and throw them (literally) on the distant and enemy-crammed island of Corto Maltese. Traversing a jungle teeming with adversaries and guerrillas at every turn, the Squad is launched on a mission. search and destruction, with only Colonel Rick Flag to mentor them in the field … and government technology in their ears, so Amanda Waller can follow their every move. As always, one misstep is synonymous with dead ( whether from the hands of their opponents, a teammate or Waller herself). If someone wants to bet, better bet against them – and against all of them. “
We take a few of the same ones (Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Captain Boomerang) and start over with a handful of new ones, whose identities were revealed last August during the DC FanDome. And it is therefore on the (fictitious) island of Corto Maltese that these beautiful people will brave death in this feature film which should be rated R (prohibited for unaccompanied under 17s) in the United States, and in which James Gunn claims anyone can pass the gun to the left. But can we expect to see one of the greatest superheroes in the DC Universe?
Created in 1986 in the third volume of “Dark Knight Returns” by Frank Miller, Corto Maltese (named after the hero of Hugo Pratt) is an island in South America shaken by clashes between rebels supported by the Soviet Union and the government behind which the United States is aligned , who send Superman to pacify the area. A dystopian reinterpretation of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1963, which results in the launch of a nuclear weapon that Man of Steel manages to divert … to another part of the Earth, which gives rise to other problems and causes him to lose his powers. In view of its synopsis, which mentions guerrillas, can we expect The Suicide Squad to be inspired by this segment of the comic book? And for Henry Cavill to make an appearance?
For now, there has never been any question of an actor’s cameo, taken by the set of The Witcher. But who knows if a surprise is not on the program, because the choice of this place is probably not trivial. Anyway, this will be the first real appearance of Corto Maltese, mentioned in Smallville (episode 11 of season 6) then Arrow (episode 3 of season 1), and seen thanks to a photo signed Vicki Vale in the Batman by Tim Burton, who gave a nice nod to Frank Miller, one of his sources of inspiration.
Warner Bros. Pictures
Originally described as independent from the rest of the DC Universe on the big screen, The Suicide Squad could therefore have more connections than expected. See you on July 28, or in a future trailer, to find out.
