In the mini-series The Serpent, available on Netflix, Tahar Rahim plays Charles Sobhraj, a serial killer who poisoned his victims to steal them in Asia in the 1970s. He looks back on his experience and the complexity of his character.

With Le Serpent, we dive into the 1970s in Asia, between Thailand, India and Nepal. The series takes us on the road of the famous “Hippie Trail”, this destination chosen by young backpackers in search of adventure, discovery and break with Western culture.

For this very particular role, Tahar Rahim had to fight before figuring out how to play Charles Sobhraj. This bogus dealer in precious stones was in reality a crook who poisoned young tourists who had the misfortune to cross his path in order to rob them of their money, jewelry and travelers’ checks.

For Allociné, he talks about his preparation and his way of understanding the psychology of Charles Sobhraj… a role he had dreamed of playing for 20 years!
