This is news that could help us better live our long evenings on our sofa. On October 23, CANAL + launched CANAL + PREMIÈRE, allowing the public to discover a new film each month in France. And it is Le Jardin secret which had the privilege of inaugurating this brand new label. If the title of this film means anything to you, it is no coincidence, since it is simply the latest adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s bestseller. Released in 1911, this unmissable children’s novel has seen several remakes in cinema and television, its most famous version being that of 1994, directed by Agnieszka Holland. This year, Marc Munden took control of the book to push again the doors of this abundant and enchanting universe. Combined with the know-how of David Heyman, producer of Harry Potter and Paddington, the director here signs a sublime ode to the mysteries of childhood, worn by Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Maeve Dermody, but also and especially the young Dixie Egerickx in the role of the heroine.
A FAMILY AND HUMANIST FILM
The Secret Garden is the story of Mary (Dixie Egerickx), a little British girl who has just lost her parents. Orphan, she must leave overnight her native India to join the English countryside, and live in the mansion of her uncle Archibald Craven (Colin Firth). A new home in which she meets her cousin Colin (Edan Hayhurst), a young boy named Dickon (Amir Wilson), the mischievous dog Fozzie, but also a robin as mischievous as it is ingenious. It is in the company of this happy team that Mary discovers the famous magic garden, at the same time starting an extraordinary friendship. Combining wonder with emotion and a good dose of hope, Le Jardin secret is sure to please all families!
The Secret Garden is available on myCANAL.
