Here is everything you need to know about “The Rings of Power”, the series adapted from the novels “The Lord of the Rings” by JRR Tolkien, to discover in the coming days on the Amazon Prime Video platform.
After the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies signed peter jacksonthe work of JRR Tolkien is the subject of a new adaptation – this time in series – with Rings of Powerproduced and broadcast exclusively by the Amazon Prime Video platform.
What release date?
The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 2. Two episodes will be offered to platform subscribers on the day the series is launched, then one episode each Friday.
How many episodes?
Season 1 of The Rings of Power only totals eight episodes; its broadcast will therefore be spread over barely seven weeks, with two episodes being offered on the day of the launch of the series.
What is it about ?
Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the dreaded re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the far reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that will last long after that they are gone.
Who is in the cast?
As for him, known to the general public for having played the young Ned Stark in flashback scenes of Game Of Thrones, Robert Aramayo plays Elrond, Lord of Rivendell. As a reminder, the half-Elf was embodied by Hugo Weaving in the Peter Jackson trilogies.
The central role of the elf Celebrimbor, the designer of the Rings of Power, has been entrusted to the comedian Charles Edwards (The Crown), while Isildur, the ancestor of Argaron, is embodied by Maxim Baldry (Years and Years).
A loose adaptation of Tolkien’s novels
The Rings of Power is not inspired by any novel written by JRR Tolkien, and for good reason since the Amazon platform “only” has the rights to The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and its Annexes. Although the series wants to be as faithful as possible to the work of Tolkien, the main lines of the plot do not therefore appear in the writings of the novelist, in the same way as a certain number of characters specifically created for the needs of series.
But no need to worry for hardcore fantasy fans, since the first episodes of the program have been previewed to influential American bloggers, and in particular Tolkien specialists, reaping a shower of praise and enthusiastic reviews!
The most expensive series of all time
With an estimated budget of 500 million dollars for its first season (or 40 million per episode), The Rings of Power broke a record even before its broadcast, becoming the most expensive series of all time. In particular, it is ahead of the Marvel series (Hawkeye, Wanda Vision, Loki or Falcon and the Winter Soldier and their 25 million dollars per episode), the mini-series The Pacific (20 million per episode) or even The Mandalorian (15 million per episode).
Will there be a season 2?
Sign of a certain form of confidence in the qualities of the series, Amazon Prime Video ordered a second season, the shooting of which began a few months before the launch of the first season of the Rings of Power. Remember that the program was designed by its creators as a series spanning five seasons in total!
