Screen Rant‘s Molly Freeman called The Marvels “an absolute BLAST,” as she commended director Nia DaCosta’s work with the latest MCU installment while also praising Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani’s performances.

Film critic William Bibbiani went on to say that The Marvels is “one of the better times I’ve had in a theater with a Marvel movie in the last couple of years,” and describes the dynamic with the characters as a “wonderful ensemble.”

Buzzfeed‘s Nora Dominick admitted that as someone who “adore[s] Captain Marvel and WandaVision,” The Marvels was something she was ready to have fun with, and she praised the three female stars for their “superb comedic timing together, but also beautifully worked in the touching scenes.”

TVInsider‘s Kelli Boyle described The Marvels as “the next great addition to the MCU” that is “full of personality,” while also enjoying the fight choreography and also how Marvel Studios “finally let Samuel L. Jackson just be funny.”

What The Marvels Reactions Mean For The MCU Movie

Although the MCU will soon be able judge The Marvels, early reactions have been positive. The Marvels reportedly targeted a box office weekend 72% less than Ant-Man & the Wasp Quantumania. Word of mouth is likely to help the box office in the next few weeks, as The Marvels has already started to gain buzz.

If The Marvels is a success commercially for Marvel Studios it would mean more female-led MCU superhero films will be approved. Black Widow had mixed reviews, but Captain Marvel is the first woman-led superhero film to surpass $1 billion, so a sequel seemed a given. If The Marvels proves to be a financial success for Marvel Studios then a third movie is likely. Kevin Feige may even consider giving other female superheroes solo movies.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with Carol, Kamala and Monica. Whether it’s a follow-up or in the Phase 6 Avengers films, their relationship is one that stands out. The Marvels will be interesting in determining if it sets up a potential Ms. Marvel Season 2 is said to be dependent on the success of this movie. Marvels will begin airing this Friday.
