Present from the first episode of season 2 of The Mandalorian, available since October 30 on Disney +, Timothy Olyphant plays Marshal Cobb Vanth. Resident of Mos Pelgo on Tatooine, Cobb Vanth will ask the help of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), passing through town, to defeat a krayt dragon, which threatens the people of Mos Pelgo but also the men of the sands. In return for his help, Cobb Vanth promises the Protector of the Child, aka Baby Yoda, to return the Mandalorian armor he acquired from the Jawas a few years ago.
This is the first time that the character of Cobb Vanth has appeared on the small screen but he had already appeared in the novel Response, first part of a trilogy, by Chuck Wendig in 2015. This novel is between The Return of the Jedi and The Awakening of the Force. In the novel, Cobb Vanth meets Adwin Charu, a member of the Red Key Company, a mining company which is in reality a criminal syndicate, in the middle of a deal with the Jawas. The whole plot of Cobb Vanth in the Riposte trilogy is based on this conflict between him and the Compagnie Clé Rouge in order to save Villelibre, better known as Mos Pelgo, as set out in The Mandalorian, since the death of Jabba the Hutt.
Following this altercation, Cobb Vanth became the sheriff of Mos Pelgo and made the city an honest place with the help of the Twi’lek Issa-Or. Together, they come to the aid of Malakili, the former rancor trainer of Jabba, who will become the trainer of the Mos Pelgo rontos and also of a baby Hutt rescued by Cobb Vanth. The Mandalorian took over a few plot elements from the trilogy, namely Cobb Vanth’s status as sheriff, his acquisition of Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armor and his fight against a criminal mining organization but the first episode of season 2 makes no mention of admin Charu or Issa-Or. After their victory against the Krayt Dragon, it is not impossible that the paths of Din Djarin and Cobb Vanth will intersect in the rest of Season 2 of The Mandalorian, which would allow the story of Cobb Vanth to be deepened a little more. .
