Born in 2020 on the absence of the E3 show due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sumer Game Fest has now become essential in the announcements of the upcoming line-ups of video game publishers. This live show does not replace the other conferences which have maintained their annual meeting, but it has the merit of unveiling highly anticipated titles and some nice surprises. Selected pieces.

The Last of us

It was to be one of the highlights of the show, unfortunately stale before kick-off. Neil Druckmanthe creator of The Last of uscame on stage to announce the release of a remake – and not a remastered version – of the first game The Last of us, renamed “The Last of us – Part I”, just to better match the title of its sequel. This new version has moreover been developed on the basis of the engine of The Last of Us – Part I.

Expected on September 2 on PS5 and PC, this version notably benefits from significantly revised and corrected gameplay. Check out the announcement trailer. The Naughty Dog teams deny wanting to surf on the upcoming broadcast of the highly anticipated series on HBOscheduled for next year, but they would have been wrong to deprive themselves.

In addition to the announcement of a multiplayer game in Stand Alone in the universe of The Last of us, Druckmann brought on stage the actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who are behind the performance capture in the games, and announce their participation in the series in still undisclosed roles. History to whet the appetites a little more, Druckmann, director of an episode, dropped that this one would be “the most faithful adaptation of a video game”.

Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 2

Activision’s billionaire and annual martingale returns at the end of the year; more precisely on October 28th. baptized Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2this new opus is in fact the sequel to the game released in 2019, which was itself a reinterpretation of the game released in 2007. The publisher’s marketing services are facetious, because we get lost… We will therefore find the unstoppable Captain Price and his team criss-crossing the four corners of the globe to eradicate the terrorist threat.

The title developed under the supervision of the Infinity Ward studio (and with the big reinforcement of other studios of the Activision house) was also revealed during a mission, entitled Dark Water. First on an Offshore oil rig then aboard a container ship, Captain Price and his team must sneak through the rain to prevent the launch of a missile.

The opportunity to admire in particular the very impressive effects / movements of water, ultra realistic. Visually, this COD: MW 2 has it under the hood. Judge instead:

Gotham Knights

Developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal, Gotham Knights was initially expected for 2021, before seeing its release postponed to October 25. The title is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but will not be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

The studio to which we owe in particular Batman Arkham Origins therefore returns to the universe of the Dark Knight with a title that gives pride of place to the heroes in the shadow of the Batman. We can thus control Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Red Hood (Jason Todd) and Robin (Tim Drake) and face the worst criminals of Gotham.

The Trailer below focuses on Nightwing..

One Piece Odyssey

Between a movie expected for next August, a animated series scheduled for 2023, and an upcoming video game called One Piece Odysseythe cult character created by the mangaka Eiichiro Oda floods all possible supports.

Planned for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, no specific date yet but expected to be 2022, One Piece Odyssey transports the Straw Hat crew to a mysterious new island where quests await, struggles with powerful enemies and enigmatic bosses in turn-based battles. In the game, players will be able to freely choose to play one of the nine fan-favorite pirates – Monkey. D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Franky, Sanji, Usopp, Nico Robin, TonyTony, Chopper and Brook.

Here is the trailer..

Aliens: Dark Descent

The Alien franchise has had mixed fortunes in video games. She also came back through the back door in August 2021 with Aliens: Fireteam Elitefriendly but forgettable shooting game playable up to three people in cooperation, in which we played as a customizable Marine eradicating waves of xenomorphs.

We prefer that said to keep the fond memory of the masterpiece that was Alien: Isolationreleased in 2014. Uan exceptional title, which not only managed to atomize previous failures to memory, and even eclipse other games in the franchise, but also rose without problem to the heights of the Survival Horror. A miraculous title that we hadn’t dared to hope for for years for this franchise; which finally did justice to one of the greatest licenses in the history of cinema.

Still, a new license operator was revealed yesterday: Aliens Dark Descent. Developed by Tindalos Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, the title presents itself as a tactical game in isometric view, where, again, a squad of marines will have to clean up against hordes of xenomorphs.

Coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, Aliens: Dark Descent is expected in 2023. The cinematic trailer below reveals some gameplay footage at the end.

The Callisto Protocol

Glen Schofield, who was the CEO of the Visceral Games studio and creator of the formidable horror franchise dead space (adored by the way by a certain John Carpenter), left to co-found the Sledghammer studio while working on the license call of dutyhas since left office.

Going back to a studio dubbed Striking Distance Studios, it revealed in December 2020 what will be the studio’s first game. A horror game, then, by the name of The Callisto Protocol. Located on Callisto, the dead moon of Jupiter, in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol challenges players to break out of the high security prison of Black Iron and uncover the terrifying secrets of the United Jupiter Company.

Glen Schofield kept some ammunition in his bag when he delivered a brand new “Schofield Cut” version of the gameplay trailer previously unveiled at Sony’s State of Play last week. This new version of the trailer features an additional 30 seconds of brutal combat, including a new vicious death sequence for the game’s hero, Jacob Lee.

The game is still pretty damn envious anyway. As a reminder, it is expected on December 2.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

In 2014, Marvel studios decided to change their tune regarding the video game versions of their licenses, most of the time catastrophic, with very few exceptions. Because if the films under Marvel licenses prance regularly at the top of the Box Office, it was not frankly the same for video games.

Since then, their catalog of games has more than greatly blossomed, between the formidable Spiderman on the Sony console, the Marvel’s Avengers developed by Crystal Dynamics, or the awesome Guardians of the Galaxy from the studio Eidos Montreal (which we discussed at length here), to name but a few examples.

Announced in August 2021, the game Marvel’s Midnight Sunsdeveloped under the tutelage of Firaxis Games studio, renowned for its game franchise Civilization and the series of tactical games X-Comis a tactical role-playing game with Marvel sauce.

It features The Sons of Midnight, forming a team of superheroes who first appeared as a group in the comics. Ghost Riderin 1992, and were brought together by Dr. Strange to battle a character named Lilith, the Queen of Demons, freed from the womb of Leviathan.

Scheduled for October 7, 2022, the game unveiled a new trailer featuring Venom, without however showing any gameplay images…

Fort Solis

We will end our small selection by making another hook through the SF box, with Fort Solis. Space horror game in 3rd person view that seems to feed heavily on the (very good) influences of the decidedly unstoppable dead space, the game is carried by Troy Baker, who lends his voice to the main character, a medical officer. But also by the actor Roger Clarkwho lent his features and his voice to the character Arthur Morgan, from the fabulous western game Red Dead Redemption II.

No release date for the moment, but certainly a title to follow closely.
