After a short teaser in the streets of Paris to announce the arrival of his series on Netflix, Damien Chazelle finally unveils the first images of The Eddy, his latest musical and international production. We follow Elliot Udo (Andre Holland), a pianist previously adulated in New York and now co-owner of a bankrupt jazz club in Paris which he co-directs with Farid (Tahar Rahim), whose secrets will have serious repercussions on the group. His wife Amira (Leïla Bekhti) somehow supports the club. For his part Elliot maintains an animated romantic relationship with the main singer of his group (Joanna Kulig). And when his fifteen-year-old daughter suddenly reappears in his life (Amandla Stenberg), he has to overcome his weaknesses and learn to grow.
After Whiplash and La La Land, Damien Chazelle remains in the field of music: the trailer, punctuated by jazzy sounds, promises us a demanding, different and ambitious series. As proof, the actors did not do things by halves: Andre Holland took piano and French lessons and Tahar Rahim had to learn in three months to play the saxophone and to sing. And to give a sense of authenticity to his series, the director demanded that the music be recorded live from the set.
To find out the result, we will have to wait for the 8 episodes to be posted on Netflix on May 8.
