The epic of the Skywalker family ended with Star Wars IX, broadcast tonight on TF1. But this does not mean that Star Wars will disappear from the screens, far from it!

Indeed, Lucasfilm is currently developing a large number of productions in the universe created by George Lucas, in particular series for Disney + such as The Book of Boba Fett or Obi-Wan Kenobi. But also feature films, at stages less advanced than television shows.

Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron postponed

The most advanced film project in the Star Wars universe, Rogue Squadron, has suffered a setback quite recently. Deadline revealed in early November that Patty Jenkins’ film would not be filming in 2022 as planned, due to scheduling conflicts with the director’s other projects: Wonder Woman 3 and a Cleopatra biopic ( which she finally gave up a few weeks later).

The first female-directed Star Wars movie, the blockbuster that will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a thrilling, high-speed race, was originally slated for release on the 20th. December 2023. No new release date has yet been announced.

Moreover, in his Puck newsletter, Matthew Belloni, a former reporter for the Hollywood Reporter, assures us that the postponement of Rogue Squadron is not only due to a concern of schedule but indeed to creative disputes between Patty Jenkins and the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, around the scenario.

Rian Johnson’s trilogy canceled?

In the same article, Matthew Belloni reveals that the trilogy that was to be staged by Rian Johnson, to whom we owe The Last Jedi, has meanwhile been canceled altogether. “It happened to the guys from Game of Thrones. They were hired to create a new trilogy, but they left the ship. It also happened to Rian Johnson whose trilogy project was scrapped“, he maintains. Lucasfilm has however still not confirmed the information.

Taika Waititi’s movie still not written

During Star Wars Day 2020, it was officially announced that Taika Waititi, director of Thor 3 and 4, had signed on to write – with screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho) – and direct a film set in the very very distant galaxy.

A project that has not progressed much since as entrusted last August the filmmaker who has already made a foray into the Star Wars universe with the staging of an episode of the series The Mandalorian, in which he also lends his voice to the droid IG-11.

Taika Waititi thus confessed that the screenplay was still not written, while adding: “But we have a story. I am very excited by this story because it looks a lot like me.“A story, of course, kept secret.

Where is the film produced by Kevin Feige?

In September 2019, the Hollywood Reporter announced a big blow: the development of a Star Wars feature film with Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios and instigator of the MCU, in production.

Alan Horn, one of the pundits of Disney, then said: “With the end of the Skywalker Saga, Kathleen Kennedy pursues a new era in Star Wars storytelling. Knowing that Kevin Feige is a die-hard fan, it makes sense that these two amazing producers would work together on a Star Wars movie.

It was more than a year later that the project was talked about again, in January 2021, when Deadline shared that Loki series creator and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron had been hired to write the film.

Is JD Dillard’s project still relevant?

In February 2020, the Hollywood Reporter announced the development of another Star Wars film by director JD Dillard and screenwriter Matt Owens, another frequent Marvel collaborator since he participated in the writing of the Luke Cage and Agents of series. SHIELD. But since then, it has been radio silence for this film supposed to take place on the planet of the Sith, which has never been confirmed by Lucasfilm. It is therefore difficult to know if it will see the light of day.

A new film with the heroes of postlogy?

The Walt Disney Company France

Just recently, Kathleen Kennedy made an amazing revelation regarding the future of the Star Saga. While it was believed that the adventures of Rey and her friends would not follow after The Rise of Skywalker, the producer told Empire: “They are certainly not characters that we will forget.

And to specify: “They are going to live on and there are discussions about this with the creative team.“Something to rejoice aficionados of the latest trilogy but to frighten its detractors …

If the release dates of all these feature films are not known, Disney still has two slots in its calendar dedicated to Star Wars productions: December 19, 2025 and December 17, 2027. Will films actually be released on these dates and which will they be? To your bets!
