Spencer: Prime video buys the rights to the biopic on Lady Diana
Spencer, Pablo Larrain’s film starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, will not be released in theaters in France. Amazon Prime Video bought the rights to it.
The rumor had been going around for a few days. It’s now official according to Variety. Spencer, the Lady Diana biopic starring Kristen Stewart, will stream direct on Amazon Prime Video. The highly anticipated film by Pablo Larrain – who had already signed a striking portrait of a woman with Jackie – will make its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival on September 3.
STX International represents Spencer’s rights for France, alongside the UK, Italy and the Benelux. Other international territories have been acquired by independent distributors.
The first trailer for the film, which unveiled last week, immediately went viral. The resemblance between the Princess of Wales and Kristen Stewart is disturbing there. Just like the dramatic intensity that Pablo Larrain wanted to infuse into his film.
Written by Steven Knight the creator of Peaky Blinders, Spencer focuses on a weekend in December 1991. The Princess is spending Christmas holidays with the Royal Family in the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk when she decides to end her marriage with prince charles amid rumors of adultery.
