At the start of the school year, a new superhero officially joins the MCU in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. Its first adventure on the big screen offers you a real compendium of action and stunning and extremely well choreographed martial arts combat scenes.

THE NEW RECRUIT OF THE UNIVERSE OF MARVEL
Created in the 70s by cartoonists Al Milgrom and Jim Starlin and screenwriter Steve Englehart, Shang-Chi is a superhero of the Marvel universe, specialist in martial arts. Mainly inspired by kung fu films, the character has nevertheless been modernized in order to offer an origin story rooted in our time, far from stereotypes and other caricatures.
The story of Shang-Chi, played on screen by Simu Liu, begins in the streets of San Francisco. Employed as a valet for a hotel, the young man will have to face a past that he thought he had left behind when he is caught in the web of the mysterious organization of the Ten Rings.
For director Destin Daniel Cretton (The Way of Justice), Shang-Chi is simply “A guy who tries to find his place in the world”. His origin story will plunge us into the past of the hero, who will notably have to face his father Wenwu, feared leader of the Ten Rings organization lurking in the shadow of the MCU for years …
MCU PHASE 4 DEPLOYS
The 25th Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces a handful of new characters to the fan-beloved universe, including Marvel Studios’ first Asian-born superhero. An introduction that promises big changes at the dawn of phase 4 of the MCU, launched in the cinema with the film Black Widow.
While the character of Shang-Chi first appears in the famous shared universe, and may seem far removed from the intrigues previously staged on the big screen, he has actually been connected to other Marvel superheroes since the very beginning of the game. MCU, and in particular Iron Man, through the Ten Rings organization, led by his father.
In 2008, in the first film dedicated to the solo adventures of billionaire Tony Stark – the MCU’s first film by the way – the hero played by Robert Downey Jr. was indeed kidnapped by members of the Ten Rings organization who wanted the oblige to manufacture a formidable weapon.
It is in 2013, in Iron Man 3, that the leader of the Avengers is opposed this time directly to the head of the group, the Mandarin. Without suspecting that it is in reality only an actor hired by the dangerous character at the head of the Ten Rings to fool him.
SPECTACULAR ACTION SCENES
To offer viewers a stunning feature film in homage to martial arts films, Marvel Studios teams have recruited experts from around the world, also specializing in fields such as archery and parkour.
“One thing all team members have in common is a deep respect for the art form,” underlines Destin Daniel Cretton. “These fights are not just about people punching and kicking each other. Every movement tells a story, and it was really enriching for me to discover that. ”
Actor Simu Liu underwent intensive training prior to production, a total of five months, in order to be able to perform as many stunts as possible on set himself. “A lot of the physical intensity of the training followed by Simu [Liu] reflects that of the training Shang-Chi followed as a child, ” says the director.
Paced by memorable martial arts choreographies associated with the characteristic style of the Marvel universe, mixing humor, emotion and great spectacle, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will blow a breath of fresh air in the world of superheroes!
LET THE SHOW BEGIN
On the music side, the now essential French producer DJ Snake collaborates for the first time with Marvel by signing the title Run It with Rick Ross and Rich Brian, to be found on the film’s soundtrack. An electro and rhythmic piece that announces the color!
Around Simu Liu (Orphan Black), spectators will also find Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8), Tony Leung (In the Mood for Love), Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow never dies) or even Meng’er Zhang in his first role in the cinema.
