Netflix has not yet renewed Shadow and Bone for a season 2 but showrunner Eric Heisserer is already launching a few leads for the sequel.
Shadow and Bone, the adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s fantasy saga, was a big hit for Netflix. And if the streaming platform is slow to announce its renewal, its showrunner is already ready to write this season 2. These new episodes should bring to the screen the volume 2 of Grisha, entitled “The ice dragon”.
In the book, Alina and Mal took a boat to escape as far as possible from the Fold, before embarking on the quest for a new amplifier. On the True Sea, they will cross paths with Sturmhond, a mysterious privateer who will play a very important role in his battle against the Darkling (Ben Barnes). The latter will be back with his Nichevo’ya, monstrous creatures that he can control outside of the Fold with merzost.
Shadow and Bone season 2 should be more or less true to this plotline and there’s a good chance that Sturmhond, along with his “henchmen” Tolya and Tomar will make an appearance. The Apparat could also be back since volume 2 takes a more religious and fanatic turn by erecting Alina as a Saint.
But the main change will rather lie on the side of the Dregs, Kaz (Freddy Carter), Jesper (Kit Young) and Inej (Amita Suman). The writers have indeed decided to integrate the characters of the Six of Crows duology and to imagine a new story around the kidnapping of Alina (Jessie Mei Li). If Eric Heisserer is to be believed, the sequel will focus on their return to Ketterdam and their adventures.
In this interview, he affirms his desire to make Wylan appear, one of the Crows of the team which also includes Nina and Matthias (who have their own plot in the series). A character gifted in explosives particularly appreciated by fans. The Dregs should be given a new mission, which this time has nothing to do with Alina.
But it will not only be a question of revenge and the quest for an amplifier in this season 2, if it is ordered: Alina and Mal (Archie Renaux) should finally get closer and exchange a first kiss, even though the writers had decided to do not put this scene – which exists in volume 1 – in the first season: “There were times when it could have been justified … but I think there will be other occasions, if we are given the opportunity. ” had confided in the Heisserer era.
