Fed up with TV series and auteur cinema, Emilie Semiramoth also does not hide her penchant for pop culture in all its eccentricities. From the bromance between Spock and Captain Kirk in Star Trek to the disillusionment of Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, she ignores gender boundaries.

The creator of The Affair, Hagai Levi, takes another look at the relationship with Scenes from a Marriage. This remake of the Scenes from the Married Life series by Ingmar Bergman brings together Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac.

Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain are a couple caught up in love with all of its complexities in the HBO Scenes From a Marriage miniseries. The highly anticipated remake of Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from Married Life series – better known in its film version – is revealed in a first trailer.

The original mini-series dates from 1973. The Swedish filmmaker traces the story of a couple married for a decade, from the breakdown of their relationship to their reconciliation and beyond. The series was based on Bergman’s own relationship with his muse and partner Liv Ullmann.

This new iteration, created from the pen of Israeli Hagai Levi (The Affair), revisits the tumultuous marriage of a couple who love each other, but where love is not enough to find harmony. HBO’s version aims to reexamine the portrayal of love, hate, passion, monogamy, marriage, and divorce from the perspective of a contemporary American couple.

This project also allows Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac to reunite after their collaboration in A Most Violent Year, in 2014. The actress, twice nominated at the Oscars, replaced last October Michelle Williams who was initially to play the role.

Scenes from a Marriage will debut on September 12 on HBO and the next day in US + 24 on OCS.
