While the ninth film in the Spiral saga: The Legacy of Saw is due to hit theaters soon, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have just announced that a tenth installment of the horror saga is in the works.

The feature film will be produced by Oren Koules and Mark Burg of Twisted Pictures, franchise creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell are also expected to be in production.

The project is currently in development, but the site Bloody-Disgusting specifies that the launch of Saw 10 will be conditional on the results at the box office of Spirale. If the figures for the spin-off carried by Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson are not there, it is very likely that the project will be abandoned or postponed. No other information has been revealed at this time.

Following the success of the first Saw (2004) at the box office ($ 104 million in international box office revenue for a budget of 1.2 million), 6 sequels followed. The last, titled Saw 3D, was released in 2010.

The saga then found a new lease of life via Jigsaw released in 2017 ($ 103 million at the international box office). The success of the latter has pushed Lionsgate to continue the saga with the idea of pitch proposed by Chris Rock.

Spiral: The Legacy of Saw takes place after the events of the last films. Lieutenant Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock) and his partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) investigate a series of gruesome murders whose modus operandi is strangely reminiscent of a serial killer who once raged in the city. Trapped unknowingly, Zeke finds himself at the center of a terrifying ploy in which the killer pulls the strings.

Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, the feature film is due out in theaters on May 19, provided theaters are open.
