While Arte is broadcasting the last three episodes of season 1 of “Profession Reporter” this Thursday evening, find out if the series worn by Anna Torv (“The Last of Us”) has been renewed for a second season.
Last Thursday, Arte broadcast the first three episodes of Profession: Reporter, an Australian series carried by Anna Torv and Sam Reid which takes us behind the scenes of the writing of a television news in the 80s.
The first season follows the fate of Dale Jennings (Reid), a young reporter who is desperate to become a presenter. He is paired with Helen Norville (Torv), the channel’s star presenter who is known to be “difficult”.
Together, they will cover the major events of 1986, from the shock of the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, to the craze for comet Halley, via the AIDS crisis.
Broadcast in August 2021 on the Australian channel ABC, Profession: Reporter immediately met with success, and became the channel’s most-watched fiction that year.
The series also received numerous accolades at the 11th Annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Actress for Anna Torv. It is therefore no surprise that in March 2022, Profession: Reporter was renewed for a second season which should arrive very soon on Australian television.
According to the official synopsis, this new burst of episodes, still written by Michael Lucas, will begin one year after the events of the first season. Helen Norville and Dale Jennings are now known as the “news star couple”.
In the eyes of the outside world, they are the perfect image of success and love. But the reality is much more complex. In 1987, global stocks crash, Australia is about to celebrate its bicentenary, and Helen and Dale wonder what they really want to do with their lives.
Regarding the cast, Anna Torv and Sam Reid will be back for this season 2, as will William McInnes (Lindsay Cunningham), Robert Taylor (Geoff Walters), Michelle Lim Davidson (Noelene Kim), Stephen Peacocke (Rob Rickards), Chai Hansen (Tim Ahern), Chum Ehelepola (Dennis Tibb) and Marg Downey (Evelyn Walters).
Daniel Gillies, known for his roles in The Vampire Diaries saga and in Virgin River, will also join the cast as Charlie, the son of a newspaper magnate who is desperate to make a name for himself.
