Before “Die Can Wait”, remember the personal plot of Daniel Craig’s James Bond and the situation it was left in at the end of “Specter”.
The 25th James Bond feature film is released in theaters this Wednesday, with Daniel Craig in his latest incarnation of the famous British spy. Dying Can Wait takes place shortly after the events of Specter, the latest film dated 007, released in 2015.
Find the characters of the Bond saga worn by Craig and the situation in which we left them in the last film.
James Bond (Daniel Craig)
At the end of Specter, his last adventure, Bond accomplished his personal revenge against the criminal organization SPECTER and locked up the Machiavellian Blofeld, his nemesis. He is no longer officially Her Majesty’s Secret Agent, since he was laid off at the start of the film and was not reinstated afterwards. Still deeply marked by the suicide of Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) with whom he had fallen in love and for which he is partly responsible (see Casino Royale), James Bond got back into a relationship years later with Madeleine and spends days happy.
Mr White (Jesper Christensen)
Secondary character of Casino Royale, he comes to the fore in Quantum of Solace before repenting in Spectrum. A member of the SPECTER organization, we first see him playing intermediaries, before he is captured for attempted murder on James Bond. His questioning by M. will show that he has a good deal of confidence and a good deal of self-confidence. In Specter, we learn that he left SPECTER, that he disagrees with Blofeld’s methods since they notably involve sex trafficking and that he is the father of Madeleine’s character (read below) . We especially discover him condemned to die of a thallium poisoning and he commits suicide in front of Bond.
Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux)
French psychologist, Madeleine Swann is first introduced to Bond as being not only the daughter of one of his former enemies, Mr White, but as the one who can lead him to “The American” and from there to the man he’s tracking: Franz Oberhauser. While having to use it for his mission, Bond falls under the spell of Madeleine, who we discover during the film Specter that she is comfortable with firearms. She helps 007 defeat Franz Oberhauser and when all danger is over, she pairs up with the famous spy.
Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright)
Announced back in this 25th James Bond, Felix Leiter is a CIA agent played by Jeffrey Wright and had previously appeared in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. In this latest feature film, which marks his last screen appearance, Felix was present at the signing of a deal between Mr. Greene and Gregg Beam, a corrupt CIA agent. The latter allows a putsch to take place in Bolivia and in exchange, the new local government grants the United States all the next oil concessions. Leiter disapproves of the fact that the United States is making deals with such shady types of Greene (Mathieu Amalric) but is forced to comply. Felix Leiter was supposed to be more present in Quantum of Solace, but rewrites on set dramatically reduced the length of his scenes. Friend of 007, Felix ends the film by being named section chief in place of Beam. He is quickly mentioned by Bond in Spectrum but does not appear there.
Blofeld (Christoph Waltz)
Real name Franz Oberhauser, Ernst Stavro Blofeld hates James Bond from the depths of his being. As a child, his father adopted little James Bond after losing his parents and the two grew up together. And young Franz developed a jealousy that never happened.
Blofeld (Christoph Waltz) Blofeld killed his father in revenge for his decision to adopt James, and he also became the leader of SPECTER, a worldwide terrorist and criminal organization. All the events that have taken place from Casino Royale to James Bond are the work of Blofeld, who has never ceased to grow his professional activity while reaching Bond deep in his being in order to break him.
At the end of Specter, Ernst Stavro Blofeld is defeated and imprisoned by 007, Madeleine and Mr.
M (Ralph Fiennes)
From Skyfall, the “M” position has been held by Gareth Mallory, former chairman of the Intelligence and Security committee and now head of Her Majesty’s Secret Service. In Specter, M struggles to maintain the existence of his service, while he opposes the idea of sharing data between countries to prevent terrorist attacks because it could harm his men on the ground. If pushed to do so by the circumstances, M turns out to be a valuable ally for Bond, as he participates in the arrest of Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), who seeks to establish a global surveillance system that will allow SPECTER to control everything. Together, 007, Madeleine and M put an end to this attempt and stop Blofeld.
