The story takes place in East Germany in 1956 and follows the high school students Kurt, Theo and Lena. With their comrades, they decide to have a minute of silence in class, in tribute to the Hungarian revolutionaries harshly repressed by the Soviet army. This minute of silence becomes a matter of state and will turn their lives upside down. Faced with a government determined to identify and punish those responsible, the 19 students from Stalinstadt will have to face all threats and remain united. As with his previous film (Fritz Bauer, a German hero), director Lars Kraume wonders what life must have been like in Germany after the Third Reich.
