  • New Samsung Galaxy S30 Ultra renders again point to a redesigned camera array.
  • The phone will reportedly feature four rear cameras and one “unknown” sensor.

Yet another purported render of the Samsung Galaxy S30 Ultra has emerged, providing new details of the phone’s possible rear camera array and a mystery sensor.

Per tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, the image is largely consistent with the renders we’ve seen before. The Galaxy S30 Ultra will likely feature a redesigned camera array shared with the S30 and S30 Plus. More important is what the S30 Ultra’s camera array holds. According to Hemmerstoffer, the phone will now host four cameras alongside a fifth “unknown” sensor in the top right of the housing.

There are little details surrounding the Galaxy S30 Ultra’s camera arsenal, but early specs leaks suggest the firm could draw considerable inspiration from the Galaxy S20 Ultra. It’s possible then that Samsung will reuse the 108MP sensor. The telephoto and ultrawide setup may also reprise their roles. We’ve also seen rumors that Samsung could include a secondary telephoto camera in a similar vein to the Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus and P40 Pro Plus. This would improve image quality across the zoom range.

What about the mystery sensor? One rumor suggests Samsung could ditch the ToF camera, as it’s done with the Note 20 series. But this sensor in the top-right corner certainly looks like an unconventional addition, suggesting that it’s an autofocus module or indeed a ToF sensor.

Interestingly, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard of a rumored Samsung phone with five rear sensors. The Galaxy A72, apparently set for launch in early 2021, packs a 64MP sensor, telephoto, and ultrawide shooters alongside a dedicated “bokeh” lens and macro shooter.
