While shooting Jeremy Saulnier’s new feature film “Rebel Ridge”, John Boyega had to leave production for “family reasons”.
Taken by Jeremy Saulnier’s new film, titled Rebel Ridge, John Boyega suddenly had to quit production during filming. Netflix, which bought the rights to the feature film, justifies this departure by speaking of “family reasons“, without giving more details.
If this is not the first time that such an incident has occurred, it is still rare that an actor, who is more involved in a leading role, leaves a project when filming is already well underway. American media Variety reports that Netflix and the film crew are scrambling to find a replacement quickly.
The star of the last trilogy Star wars had joined the cast of Rebel ridge in February 2020 for a shoot scheduled for the spring of the same year, but the Covid-19 pandemic significantly changed production plans.
Known for his thrillers Blue Ruin and Green Room, the American Jeremy Saulnier wishes with this new project to address American injustices through a thriller mixing impressive action sequences, suspense and dark humor. The filmmaker had already collaborated with the Netflix platform for his film No man nor god, released in 2018.
Don Johnson, James Cromwell, James Badge Dale, AnnaSophia Robb, Emory Cohen, Zsane Jhe and Al Vicente round out the cast of Rebel ridge. After this film, John Boyega should follow up with another Netflix production, They Cloned Tyrone, alongside Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris, recently seen in WandaVision.
