Roland tells his story
At the Mistral bar, Roland finds Kilian to tell him in detail what he revealed to him the day before. He describes his father, Marcel, as a strict man, who constantly criticized him and refused to let him do boxing. On April 2, 1974, the day Pompidou died, Roland cooked foot packets to cheer up his father. Once again, the latter criticized him, even accusing him of the death of his mother Simone. In anger, Roland hit his father who kicked him out. Shortly after, Marcel died, victim of a heart attack…
Kilian reassures Roland, who has always felt guilty about this accident. At the next table, Sunalee overhears their conversation and enjoys listening to Roland’s story. The latter says that he left aboard the first freighter departing from Marseille, heading for Quebec. He landed in the small village of Chicoutimi, where he was hired as a cook in a bar. Her package feet were such a hit that she was offered to box them up to sell.
In turn, Jules and Lola get closer to listen to Roland’s adventures. After Canada, the latter then traveled to Asia. In a restaurant in Hong Kong, he acceded to the wish of a French customer tired of local food by cooking his famous foot packets. After which, Roland traveled through Australia, Madagascar, Morocco and Mauritania, landing in Saint-Louis in Senegal.
He went to a restaurant where his father had worked when he was young and where he met his mother. Thanks to the manager, Roland discovers photos of his parents’ wedding and reads letters that Marcel continued to send to his friend. By reading them, Roland discovered that he spoke of him with a tenderness that he did not know him. It was there that he understood that his father loved him in his own way…
