Nikola Mirotic’s soap opera (Podgorica, 32 years old) has come to an end. The former Barça player already has a new team, it will be Armani Olimpia Milano, who confirmed his signing this Thursday until 2026. With the hiring of the power forward by the Italian team, the uncertainty about the future of Mirotic ends. It all started in May, when FC Barcelona informed him that they were rescinding his contract to comply with the Football League Financial Plan. Once his departure was confirmed in July, which will go through the courts after failing to reach an economic agreement between the club and the player, the former Barça player was close to signing for the Serbian Partizan and sounded for the Greek Panathinaikos. Finally, the Montenegrin has decided on the Milan team.
The Olimpia Milano project led by Ettore Messina has convinced the Spanish-Montenegrin, who played for the Italian coach during his time at Real Madrid. “I am happy to be part of this great family that is Olimpia Milano and to be able to contribute to making this team and this prestigious club increasingly competitive. I will try to do everything possible to repay the trust that Mr. Armani and Chairman Dell’Orco have shown me. I am also very happy to play again for coach Messina, whom I met when I was starting. I am sure that next season will be fun and our fans will be proud of us”, the player assured through the club’s statement. For his part, owner Giorgio Armani said that when the possibility of bringing Nikola Mirotic to Milan arose, they did “everything possible” to make it a reality. “He is a champion of proven skills and a special person. We managed to win him over thanks to the credibility that we built over the years with the enormous work that we all do together on and off the pitch”, he concluded.
The Milan team will seek to fight in the next Euroleague. Mirotic’s is the seventh signing of the Italian team, which has previously closed the signings of Diego Flaccadori, Maodo Lo, Ismael Kamagate, Giordano Bortolani, Guglielmo Caruso and Alex Poythress. In Italy, Mirotic will look to Armani Milan for the Euroleague title that has eluded him in his career. He has played the last three Final Four with Barcelona and was MVP of the 2021/22 season with the same team he is now waiting to resolve the termination of his contract. At Barça he had signed to play until 2025 for a figure close to 22 million euros. The Catalan club wanted to reach an agreement for the payment of one of the two remaining years, to which Mirotic and his representatives flatly refuse and hope that justice will give them reason to collect the two full years that remained.
