Available on Disney + since Friday, and presented as a cartoon from the “Mickey Collection”, this short film is one of the many films that the mascot with big ears actually shares in three equal parts with his two lifelong friends: Donald and Goofy.

A real magical trio of Disney cartoons whose effectiveness in terms of humor is no longer to be proven, this time they find themselves aboard an old dilapidated tug, supposed to respond urgently to a distress call. As is usually the case when the three friends are in the same boat, each must take on a task that is totally impossible to achieve. While Mickey fights with a pelican to repaint the mast, Goofy struggles to refill the boiler. As for Donald, he has the heavy responsibility of fixing the engine room.

THE PRINCE AND THE POOR (1990)

MICKEY, ON HORSEBACK! (2013)

Back to basics in 2013! While he had hardly shown an ear in the cinema for 30 years, appearing in all and for all three times in the 80s and 90s (in Mickey’s Christmas, The Prince and the Poor and Mickey Loses the Head), the legendary character is making his comeback on the screens, as the opening act of a certain Snow Queen, in a new short film.

Combining traditional 1930s-style animation and computer-generated images, using voice archives from Walt disney to double the mouse, Mickey on horseback is a true declaration of love in the cinema. Here again, the notion of game is at the heart of the film, which constantly juggles between past inventions and current technologies, from the magic lantern to the CGI.
