Marvel: why the daughter of Ant-Man will change actress – Actus Ciné

American actress Kathryn Newton plays Cassie Lang, the daughter of Scott Lang aka Ant-man in “Ant-man 3”. A role played by another actress in “Avengers: Endgame”. Find out the reason for this change.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will hit theaters on February 15, 2023 and mark Marvel’s first Phase 5 movie. If the original cast consisting of Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer is back, you will have noticed that the interpreter of Scott Lang’s daughter is no longer the same.

Indeed, in the first two films it is the young Abby Ryder Fortson who plays Cassie Lang, but Marvel had to change the actress to Avengers: Endgame due to the five-year time jump. The role was therefore given to Emma Fuhrman.

However, in December 2020, Marvel announced that Kathryn Newton would take over the role of Cassandra Lang for the third installment of the adventures of the Ant-Man. A role that takes on importance in this opus since Cassie becomes Ant-Girl. The latter is also part of the Young Avengers.

Although Emma Furhmann only played the character in two scenes, the decision to hire her for Endgame should have meant that she would continue to play her in the future, especially since Marvel was already planning the future and the possibility of making a film devoted to the Young Avengers. Why did the House of Ideas decide to change actresses?

Kathryn Newton at Comic-Con

One of the main reasons is the need for a bigger name in the cast. Kathryn Newton is a rising star in Hollywood. She played in the series supernatural, Big Little Lies, The Society and the movies lady bird, Pokémon Detective Pikachu and Freaky.

Ant-Girl is going to have an increasingly important place in the MCU, so it was necessary for Marvel to have a face already known to young spectators.

When her replacement was announced, Emma Fuhrmann posted a message on her social networks:

“I just wanted to let you know that I have seen all of your kind messages. Thank you for all of your support. It means a lot to me. I was as sad as all of you to hear the news. I can only hope that this means there’s something else for me in the future of the MCU.

I will always be grateful to have been a part of this universe and the greatest movie of all time. Being an actress remains my first passion and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.”

The young woman was therefore available but was replaced by the studio.

Ant-Girl and the Young Avengers

Created by David Michelinie and John Byrne, Cassie Lang appears for the first time in April 1979 in the comics Marvel Premiere #47. As early as 2005, in issue 6 of young avengers she is nicknamed Stature. Like her father, she is able to grow and shrink thanks to Pym Particles.

Through its various series and films, the House of Ideas is gradually setting up the Young Avengers team. Besides Ant-Girl/Stature, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) the new Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) that can be seen in the trailer for Black Panther 2America Chavez aka Miss America (Xochitl Gomez) seen in Doctor Strange 2Patriot (Elijah Richardson in the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Tommy and Billy, the sons of Wanda and Vision should be part of the group.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the heroes will have to face for the first time one of the greatest villains of the MCU: Kang, the conqueror embodied by Jonathan Majors.
