Robert Downey Jr, in “Pound” (1970)
Before donning the cabin ofIron Man, role which allowed him to be reborn from his ashes, Robert Downey Jr. had a fascinating but chaotic career. Bathed in show business since his earliest childhood, he gave his very first line at the age of 5, on the occasion of pounda film directed by his father, Robert Downey Sr, in which actors play the role of imprisoned animals waiting to be euthanized. The adorable Downey Jr. then plays – but very quickly – the role of a puppy!
If this early immersion in the world of cinema will earn him the star we know today, it will also earn him the fight most of his life against drugs. Growing up in the late 1960s and early 1970s surrounded by regular users, Downey Jr. was soon tempted by drug use.
The video below is indeed often accompanied by the sordid story that a year after this shooting, his father, himself an addict, would have allowed him to try marijuana for the very first time.
“When I grow up, I want to be Iron Man…”
Chris Hemsworth in “Guinevere Jones” (2002)
Certainly, Chris Hemsworth is pursued by myths and legends… and long hair! Before becoming the famous Thor, the Australian actor was not yet a God with a hammer but still wore the crown in the Australian-Canadian fantasy series Guinevere Jones.
For this very first role, the actor squarely put himself in the shoes of King Arthur during two episodes of this series which told how a girl of our time discovered that she was the reincarnation of Queen Guinevere from Camelot…
The future Thor in Arthur’s time!
Mark Ruffalo in “American Nuclear” (1989)
Before interpreting Bruce Banner and his alter ego Hulk, Mark Ruffalo started on television. But, for a very short time! At the end of the 1980s, he took courses at the Conservatoire de Stella Adler of Los Angeles and co-founded with several of his comrades the company Orpheus Theater for which he does almost everything: writing, directing, comedy or lighting management!
At the same time, he landed his first role on the small screen in AmericanNucleara pilot commissioned by CBS which followed the hectic daily life of a blended family, made up of a journalist, his wife who also happened to be the mayor’s assistant, and their four children from previous marriages.
Ruffalo played the big brother of the siblings. This pilot, developed with the American journalist Jimmy Breslin and inspired by his life, ultimately never became a series and Mark Ruffalo continued on his way. His first important roles will not occur until 10 years later…

Scarlett Johansson in “The Irresistible North” (1994)
Like many of her Avengers pals, the future Natasha Romanoff also started her career young. At the instigation of her mother, Scarlett Johansson passed her first auditions for commercials at the age of 7.
Since she does not appreciate the activity too much, her mother then decides to focus her energy on the cinema. Little Scarlett then takes comedy lessons on weekends and appears furtively on the boards in the room. sophistryalongsideEthan Hawke.
On his way, little North crosses paths with a 4-star cast: Bruce Willis, John Ritter, Kathy Bates, Dan Aykroyd… And the future world star, Scarlett Johansson, then 9 years old! She interprets there the daughter of John Ritter and, a year later, in 1995, she would become that of Sean Connery in JustCause.
Scarlett, the perfect sister for Elijah?
Chris Evans in “Biodiversity: Wild About Life!” (1997)
If in his time, Steve Rogers was certainly unaware of environmental issues, his interpreter Chris Evans started out by discovering a universe that was unknown to him: biodiversity! In 1997, the young actor, already keen on theatre, indeed appeared in “Biodiversity: Wild about Life”, an educational program, produced in the form of docu-fiction, distributed to certain schools in order to raise awareness among middle and high school students about the biodiversity issue.
So here he is in the shoes of a schoolboy who wants to win a competition to earn money and then ends up taking an interest in the complexity of nature. So of course, this first role is a bit special… And, Chris Evans then made a more traditional debut in the short series Opposite Sexnext to Milo Ventimiglia in 2000…
When the future Captain America discovers biodiversity…
Jeremy Renner in “Total Alarm” (1995)
The future Clint Barton took longer than his Avengers counterparts to see his career take off as it should. Before definitively embracing comedy, Jeremy Renner also dabbled in several other disciplines, such as computer science, psychology and even sociology. Arriving in Los Angeles in 1993 to devote himself totally to his acting career, he gave himself 11 years to play in a real role in a film.
Two years later, he landed his first role in the teen comedy Full alarm, which has the distinction of being exactly what he was looking for: a lead role. That of D’Agostino, a disruptive, flirty teenager – and a sort of clone of kurt cobain – who prefers to party rather than study… A crazy film, a little useless but hilarious, which Renner himself describes as an essential step in the rest of his career.
Hawkeye as a scruffy teenager, it looks like this!
Elizabeth Olsen in “The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Olsey” (1995)
If his sisters, the twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsenhad a dazzling career as child stars with The house party and everything that followed, Elizabeth Olsen did not experience the same “grand total” exposure in her youth. However, she regularly (but stealthily) showed her little muzzle in the various productions of her sisters.
This is how the newcomer to the Avengers adventure appeared for the first time, at the age of 5, on the small screen in The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashleya series of musical TV movies, available only on video, where her big sisters led various investigations… and prevented her from following them!
Mary-Kate, Ashley… And Elizabeth! We get lost!
Aaron Taylor-Johnson in “Tom & Thomas” (2002)
The future Quicksilver starts his acting career early by playing in a few plays and commercials. In 2001, Aaron Taylor Johnson appeared in an episode of the series Armadillo before landing the lead role in the Anglo-Dutch feature film Tom & Thomas. At only 11 years old, he puts himself in the shoes of twins, separated for years, and then gives the reply to Sean Bean. Already a big fast!
