Marvel: first images of Eternals by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao

After making history at the Oscars thanks to “Nomadland”, Chloe Zhao will make a foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the intriguing “Eternals”, whose very first images have been unveiled.

One would have expected Marvel to take advantage of Chloe Zhao and Nomadland’s anticipated Oscar triumph (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress) to unveil an Eternals trailer the day after the ceremony. But it finally took a few more days to get a glimpse of this MCU Phase IV opus.

After making an impression on the small screen at the start of the year, Marvel Studios has teased its return to theaters with a video looking to the future. Either Black Widow and Shang-Chi, next feature films expected in the cinema, Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2, whose official titles we have discovered, as well as Ant-Man 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which now have dates Release. And finally, Eternals.

Inspired by the comic books created in 1976 by Jack Kirby, to whom we also owe the X-Men or The Fantastic Four, the feature film will take us to the cosmic side of the MCU alongside the Eternals of the title: an ancient race of human beings responsible for protecting the Earth from the Deviants, their evil counterparts. Villains we don’t see in the short first few frames, which don’t detail the plot either.

They allow us, however, to see the cast worn by Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek. Which will be surrounded by Brian Tyree Henry, Ma Dong-Seok, Gemma Chan, Barry Keoghan, Kumail Nanjiani or the two former Game of Thrones who are Richard Madden and Kit Harington. Among their respective characters will be the first openly gay superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Part of the cast of “Eternals”

Expected on November 3 in our theaters, Eternals was shot more in natural settings than the majority of the studio’s blockbusters, as Kevin Feige revealed in an interview where he praised his director by indicating that she had managed to keep her style. in the MCU.

The plan of Salma Hayek on horseback in this short teaser is also reminiscent of The Rider, Chloé Zhao’s previous opus on a rodeo champion, which tends to confirm the studio’s statements.

So can we expect Marvel to present Eternals at one of the back-to-school festivals? And in particular Venice, where Nomadland’s clear course started last year?
