Some jokes that can be heard in Marvel Cinematic Universe films are aimed more at adults than children. Back to 8 replicas a little more below the belt than the others.
If the feature films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are rather supposed to bring together audiences of all ages, certain insinuations or traits of humor from Tony Stark or Peter Quill are sometimes more intended for adults. Back to a few lines that are a little more suggestive than usual…
Hulk at the hotel
Table of Contents
In The Incredible Hulk, when Bruce Banner and Betty Ross find themselves in a motel room for an intimate moment, the hero’s watch suddenly begins to beep frantically. “I can’t be too excited,” he warns then, implying that the green giant doesn’t just react to stress or anger.
In Ant-Man and the WaspScott Lang meets Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne), a former member of SHIELD and ex-associate of Hank Pym. When he discovers that Foster has also tested the “Goliath” program, Ant-Man can’t help but ask him how high he’s gone.
Upon learning that his predecessor’s record is 6 meters, Lang then proudly replies that his is 19 meters. A little competition to which Hope Van Dyne puts an end by launching the following reply: “It’s good, have you finished your size contest?”
Naked as a green
In Thor: Ragnarok, just after confronting the Hulk in the Sakaar arena, the god of thunder wakes up in the cell of the monster, who comes out of his bath completely naked. Unable to look away in time as the green giant stalks past him, Thor seems somewhat traumatized by what he has just seen.
“It’s printed now,” he exclaims, completely disgusted.
At the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy 2when Peter Quill learns that the Sovereigns procreate by sprouting their offspring’s DNA in modules, he replies that he prefers his “good old fashioned method of reproduction”.
“Perhaps you could one day give me a history lesson,” suggests the priestess Ayesha, who seems to have fallen in love with Star-Lord. But Gamora quickly put an end to this little love affair.
Star-Lord’s Many Conquests
At the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy, just after retrieving the Orb from Morag, Peter Quill rushes back to his ship and sets sail before being overtaken by his enemies. After a few loops, a completely disheveled young alien emerges from the hold.
“Well, I prefer to be honest with you. I had forgotten that you were there”, then declares Star-Lord in front of the outraged air of the young girl, thus implying that he connects relationships without a future.
“Romanoff? You and Banner, it’s not really the time to play doctor”, exclaims Tony Stark at the end ofAvengers: Age of Ultronwhen Black Widow and Hulk are slow to join the team.
An expression suggestive to say the least, and which is even more so in the original version of the film, where Stark asks Romanoff and Banner outright not to play “hide the zucchini” (“hide the zucchini”).
Back to the Middle Ages
At the start ofAvengers: Age of Ultronwhen the superheroes try to lift Thor’s hammer in turn, Tony Stark insinuates that if he succeeds in this feat, he will automatically become the king of Asgard, and already announces his first measure as as sovereign: “I will begin by restoring the droit de seigneur”, he announces with a totally relaxed air… before failing miserably.
“You’ve already caught me doing worse than this,” exclaims Tony Stark in the first Iron Man, when Pepper Potts bursts into his shed and catches him having his armor taken off by a slew of mechanical claws. Worse than that, okay. Yes, but what, exactly?
