Man charged with murder after double shooting and manhunt in Queensland | Queensland

Police have charged a man with murder after a fatal double shooting and a manhunt in Queensland.

Police say two men, aged 23 and 37, died after they were shot on Lower King Street at Caboolture, north of Brisbane, just after 5pm on Saturday.

Witnesses told police arriving on scene they saw a man driving off in a Toyota Yaris.

A manhunt for the gunman ended shortly after 7pm when a 24-year-old suspect was apprehended at a service station 80km away, in Cornubia to Brisbane’s southeast.

Police picked up a Toyota Yaris at the service station.

The 24-year-old Caboolture man has been charged with two counts of murder, possessing a shortened firearm and other weapons offences.

He was due to appear in Caboolture magistrates court on Monday.

“We obviously have to conduct the investigation … there’s a lot of forensic evidence that needs to be combed through,” acting detective inspector Michael Hogan told reporters on Saturday evening.

“In addition to that, the investigators will be trying to ascertain what happened through the process of an interview.”
