Lupine is the first French Netflix original creation to enter the platform’s top 10 views in the United States and climb to number one.
Lupine, the series which revisits the literary character Arsène Lupine with Omar Sy, seems to conquer the whole world since it was posted on Netflix on January 8. The modern-day gentleman burglar has won over many audiences and rose to number one on top viewings in dozens of countries, including the United States. According to Deadline, the series of George Kay (Killing Eve), in collaboration with François Uzan (Family Business), quickly stormed the top 10 views on Netflix US, going from eighth to sixth then to third place before take first place in the ranking, as evidenced by the tweet of Omar Sy, who thanks the public for their support.
This is the first time that a French Netflix series has climbed into the top 10 of the platform across the Atlantic to first place. No other original French creation, from Marianne to Plan Coeur via La Révolution, has achieved such a feat. Note that American critics are rave about this modern and ambitious rereading of the adventures of the famous character created by Maurice Leblanc, whose first three episodes are directed by Louis Leterrier.
With 5 episodes for the moment, the first part of Lupine: in the shadow of Arsène relates the life of Assane Diop (Omar Sy) who uses the stratagems of his childhood hero Arsène Lupine to avenge his father, accused in wrong of a crime he did not commit 25 years ago. The favorite actor of the French is surrounded by a prestigious cast, Ludivine Sagnier, Soufiane Guerrab, Clotilde Hesme, Shirine Boutella and Nicole Garcia, in this series which has been a hit since this weekend. The second part of the first season, already toured, should soon be available on Netflix.
