Leonardo, the next France Télévisions series co-produced with RAI and ZDF is revealed through the first exclusive images. By mixing fictional intrigue and real historical facts, this new creation returns, thanks to flashbacks, to the youth of the famous painter Leonardo Da Vinci, while he is accused of having poisoned Catarina, the woman he loved.
Who says international series, says of course international casting. This historic eight-episode drama was created by Frank Spotnitz, the man behind the dystopian series The Man in the High Castle, and Steve Thompson, who was, among other things, a screenwriter on Doctor Who. In the skin of the famous painter, we find Aidan Turner, an Irish actor who became known in Poldark and the saga The Hobbit. At these sides, we can find Freddie Highmore, alias Dr. Shaun Murphy in Good Doctor, Matilda de Angelis, Giancarlo Giannini (Quantum Of Solace) and Hugo Becker (Baron Noir, Osmosis). Unfortunately, we will have to take our time patiently to find out more, since the coronavirus epidemic forced filming to pause. It should therefore arrive on the air by the beginning of the year 2021.
As a reminder, this European alliance had already been at the origin of Mirage, broadcast last February on France 2. This spy series which brought together Marie-Josée Croze and Clive Standen, had been a success for the chain since more than 3 , 6 million viewers were in front of their screen during the first evening.
