West London has lagged behind when it comes to baking production, but luckily that all changed with the opening of Layla on Portobello Road. These guys specialize in cooking with wild grains and using old traditions, so not only do they work closely with their suppliers, but they are all focused on sourcing seasonal ingredients and preventing food waste. . And that means we can expect sausage rolls made with leftover croissant dough (and HG Walter pork) on the menu, along with other baked goods including wild peanut chocolate cookies and rhubarb and cardamom pastries.
Layla longs for a more thoughtful lifestyle and if that means stepping into their line of sweet treats and focaccia sandwiches, we’re all for it. Right now, it’s only take-out, but they’ll open for an al fresco dinner on April 12, so get ready to make a pilgrimage to the west to try it out for yourself.
