The French version of “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” finally lands on DNA. Only season 4 will be available in French, but it is still possible to watch the series out of order. Explanations.
Long reserved for a niche of insiders, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has finally become a mainstream series in France. In publication since 1987 (!), The manga designed by Hirohiko Araki currently has 129 volumes; meanwhile, in circulation since 2012, the anime comprises four seasons, a fifth having recently been announced for an upcoming broadcast. Eight arcs exist to date in manga: Phantam Blood, Battle Tendancy, Stardust Crusaders, Diamond is Unbreakable, Golden Wind, Stone Ocean, Steel Ball Run, Jojolion.
River series are often considered impossible to catch up, but Jojo is however an exception to this rule. First of all because its recent release has not yet enabled the series to catch up with the publication of the manga: thus only the first five arcs of the work have been adapted in the four seasons broadcast.
Because the particularity of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is its breakdown; as complementary as they are distinct, its different parts can just as easily be seen as elements of the same story as as vaguely linked intrigues since they take place at different times, with changes in the protagonists.
So there are several ways to consume the series. First of all, there are those who want to discover its origins and therefore begin the series with its very first arc: Phantom blood. But there are also those who wish to join it during the broadcast.
It’s up to everyone to choose the arc that will suit their personal tastes, since each story takes on a genre: horror in Phantom blood, the adventure in Battle Tendancy, the police investigation in Diamond is Unbreakable…
It is therefore not a problem that the French version of the animated series begins with the fourth season. Golden Wind, the fifth arc in the series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ; although links exist with the previous seasons, it is indeed a completely new story which begins, thus allowing the spectators to familiarize it with the universe of the anime and its specific rules (in particular the Stand, name given to the powers of its protagonists).
Moreover, the publication of the manga in its current edition began with Golden Wind in 2007 (Delcourt / Tonkam editions); it was only after a few years that the volumes of the previous arcs were in turn published. France is also one of the few countries in the world to group together manga from Jojo in arcs, this to facilitate their access to neophyte readers.
The choice is therefore up to the spectators: start the series with Golden Wind is not a problem, just as it is possible for them to start the adventure Jojo by any of its arcs. In both cases, the result will be the same: the discovery of a major and atypical series.
