Much has been made about the Intel Comet Lake processors, the 10th generation of processors from the company. The 10th generation is expected to be announced in April 2020 and will be available for mobile use. How Much Support?

The number of cores and threads in Intel’s processors has increased by generation. Many of the newest models come with eight cores. The 10th generation of processors may have ten cores and twenty threads. The GeekBench website reports that benchmarks for more modern processors are performing better than a few other 9th generation models.

The added cores would provide people with more support for streaming, gaming, and recording functions. Added threads will enhance the multitasking process. The upgrade would be worthwhile for newer computers, as people are looking for additional ways to make their programs work.

How Fast Is the Processor?

The new Intel processor is expected to run at up to 5.3 GHz. The VideoCardz website found a leaked slide from a future Intel presentation suggesting that a new Core i9 processor would run at 5.3 GHz.

But there is a catch to this point. The 5.3 GHz speed would only be possible with the Thermal Velocity Boost feature. The system starts only when the system has enough power available and is at a suitable temperature for safe operation. Therefore, the device would not run as fast all the time.

The specific base speed on the processor is unclear. But it is safe to say that the 5.3 GHz would be the maximum speed. The immense number is not going to be the ultimate total.

The Physical Design

Digital Trends had a brief look at the Comet Lake processor and looked at how it would be different from the 9th generation solution. A 14nm node would work on the 10th generation, which is slightly thicker than what people have found in some other Intel models.

The design would be different from the 10nm node used in the 9th generation. That shorter node produces a more efficient body. But the slightly larger physical layout may be necessary for supporting the significant rise in power.

Support For Newer Graphics Chips

The new 10th generation Intel processors for laptops would work well alongside the newest generation of graphics chips for such devices. Nvidia is planning on announcing its new line of GeForce Super graphics interfaces for laptop use. The Intel and Nvidia upgrades would produce an outstanding design that would allow today’s laptops to become even more powerful.
