“Hey there, who goes there? (Inspector Gadget) And there, are you okay? (Ooh, ooh)!” Inspector Gadget is a cartoon co-produced between the United States, France, Canada and Japan and is an original creation by Bruno Bianchi, Andy Heyward and Jean Chalopin. The series was broadcast in France on FR3 from 1983 (launch date of the cartoon), then in the Club Dorothée in 1991 and on various cable channels since.

The principle is always the same: Doctor Gang seeks to kill Gadget or plans some crime, which little Sophie and her dog Finot with whom she can mysteriously communicate will prevent. During this time, the Inspector will commit blunder after blunder and collect all the laurels.

The final episode is the 86th in the series. It closes season 2 and is quite poetically titled Gadget and the Red Rose.

This last episode opens with Inspector Gadget testing the “gadgooka” (contraction of gadget and bazooka), with Super Capeman, vigilante allied with Gadget (of whom he is a great admirer) and present since the beginning of season 2 The weapon allows you to disintegrate a target by shooting whipped cream.

For his part, Doctor Gang is also looking for a formidable weapon and finds it thanks to the Red Rose, invented by Patate Malone. Gang calls the “Bad Boys Retirement Home” and offers retired Potato to use his legendary weapon on Gadget. It turns out that Patate once committed a terrible massacre (by shooting tomatoes at crooks) which only Gadget, then a baby in his pram, witnessed. The former killer therefore accepts.

Gadget is informed by “Le Chef”, his superior, that Patate is on his trail and that the Red Rose must be recovered. With Capeman, he begins his investigation at the retirement home for bad boys. Sophie and Finot accompany him discreetly, as usual, to watch over the squalls.

While Patate returns to his childhood neighborhood to find the Red Rose in his old lair, Gadget multiplies the disasters in his investigation, mistakes the dog Finot for Patate Malone, and gives chase.

Patate has a series of disappointments because the places he knew in his childhood and his various haunts have all been replaced by a market or an apartment building and the Red Rose remains untraceable. Pursued by Gadget and Capeman, Finot is thrown into the trailer of a truck that happens to be that of Patate Malone and his accomplices. Without knowing it, Gadget and Capeman are put back on the trail of the criminal.

Following a blow to the head, Patate remembers where the Red Rose is hidden. For her part, Sophie has already found the weapon and is making some modifications of her own. When Potato arrives and tries to use his machine gun, it explodes and spits out a smelly brown substance.

Gadget and Capeman used the gadgooka on Finot, who was walking by disguised as a lady with a stroller, disintegrating the stroller. Finot comes out of it (and discreetly) narrowly, while the Chief arrives and salutes the investigative work of Gadget and his sidekick because Malone and his accomplices can be put under lock and key.

As for Doctor Gang, he flies over the area with his jet, finds that the situation is lost and plagues that he will find Gadget very soon… Which will never happen, because it’s the end of the series.
