Season 2 of “In the Shadow of the Magnolias” arrives this Friday on Netflix, the perfect opportunity to remember where we left our heroines at the end of season 1.
Almost two years after season 1 went online, In the Shadow of the Magnolias finally returns to Netflix this Friday, February 4, for a new burst of episodes.
Adapted from the novels Sweet Magnolias by Sherryl Woods, this series follows Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue, camped respectively by JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Heather Headley and Brooke Elliott, three longtime friends who have to juggle between family life, a couple and a career in a small town in the South of the United States.
A real success from its launch, A l’ombre des magnolias was quickly entitled to a renewal for a second season. This good news had delighted fans of this drama, who feared not having answers to the many questions left unanswered at the end of season 1.
To refresh your memory before you start watching the new episodes, we have prepared a small overview of the events that occurred at the end of season 1 of In the Shadow of the Magnolias.
The car accident
The end of season 1 of In the shade of magnolias took a dramatic turn, to say the least. In the closing seconds of the final episode, Bill (Chris Klein), Maddie, Dana Sue, Helen and Ronnie (Brandon Quinn) rush to the scene of a car accident involving Maddie’s son, Kyle (Logan Allen), and a mysterious passenger.
The last time we saw the teenager, he was leaving a party in a hurry after an argument with his brother. Tyler, Nellie, Annie, CeCe (Harlan Drum), and Simon (Michael May) were all running after him to stop him from doing something stupid. This therefore means that one of these five people is likely to be the mysterious passenger present in the car at the time of the accident.
Who was with Kyle? And what will be the consequences of this accident on the lives of the different characters? The trailer lifts the lid on a few of these mysteries as we can see that Annie, Dana Sue’s daughter, and Tyler appear to be in good health.
For his part, Kyle is in a wheelchair… Has he lost the use of his legs? Did he kill anyone in the accident? Answer in season 2.
Who are Isaac’s parents?
A newcomer to Dana Sue’s restaurant, Isaac (Chris Medlin) has spent all of Season 1 trying to find his birth parents. In the final moments of the season, he asks her if she isn’t his mother, a theory he developed when he saw her ambiguous relationship with Micah (Marland Burke). Unfortunately, the phone call that Dana Sue receives informing her of the car accident, prevented her from answering this question.
However, in the Season 2 trailer, we can see Helen helping Isaac find his parents, which suggests that Dana Sue is not his mother. These new episodes will therefore surely make it possible to discover the truth about his ancestors.
Helen, ready to have a baby on her own
Helen is a brilliant lawyer who seems to have it all. Everything, except a family. When her former lover, Ryan (Michael Shenefelt), returns to Serenity, she finally thinks she can make her dream come true. Unfortunately, even years later, the two lovers are still not on the same wavelength, Ryan not wishing to have children.
After their breakup, Helen is more determined than ever to start her own family, whether she has a man by her side or not. So she made an appointment with a specialist to explore her possibilities and try to have a baby on her own. However, this life project risks being undermined by his budding relationship with Erik (Dion Johnstone).
Who will Maddie choose?
When a recruiter, a longtime friend of Cal, approaches Tyler without Maddie’s permission, Maddie is furious with her boyfriend, the betrayal reminding her of the secrets Bill, her ex-husband, had been keeping from her and which destroyed their marriage. But with the couple’s future hanging in the balance, Bill finds Maddie in the final minutes of Season 1 to ask her to take him back.
During previous episodes, Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears), Bill’s new companion, had indeed decided to leave him and return to live with his parents.
She had realized that his feelings for her and her future baby were not as strong as those he had for his ex-wife and their three children. For his part, Bill had also realized that he had ruined everything with Maddie… Which of Bill or Cal will she choose?
