IKEA Launches GREÅKER Cabinet that Eliminates Tip-Over Accidents

Everything IKEA launches becomes news, irrespective of how cliché the product is. GREÅKER is the latest addition to the IKEA wagon full of user-friendly products no one asked for. However, I can’t be making such a blunt statement considering the reputation of IKEA which must have done some market studies before launching yet another cabinet. It’s not my fault that I find it average, in fact, any other blogger might share the same opinion as me. Even if they don’t, I don’t bat an eye to it.

Albeit the mediocrity, IKEA knows how to sell a product and that is why they add a tip-over theory to it. IKEA states that the cabinet comes with an innovative safety feature that has been the primary focus of the design. It needs to be anchored to the wall, thus eliminating the risk of any tip-over accidents.

With safety and stability in mind, both the cabinet and the drawers inside were designed to decrease one of the furnishing industry’s most serious safety issues – furniture tip over. Apart from the safety aspect, it has multiple drawers for storage purposes. There are a total of three drawers that make it easier to organize everything from clothes to napkins. In case you want to stock more items, there is also an open shelf to help you serve that purpose.

Made of fibreboard, particleboard, paper foil and plastic edging, the GREÅKER cabinet blends traditional design with modern functionality. Measuring 40-inches in height and 33-inches in breadth, it is equally suited for both bedroom and living room.

Minute details such as panel doors, black handles and hinges further add aesthetic to this simple piece of furniture. The doors are designed to stop at 115-degree angle to function as a built-in support. There are cut-outs on the back panel to make it easier to anchor the cabinet to the wall. Overall, it is a practical and flexible storage suitable to use throughout the home.

Dagmara Pawlus, who designed the furniture piece for IKEA stated,

GREÅKER was developed to give customers more assurance around product safety and stability. Safety is a priority, and at IKEA, we want to take lead in creating products that people can continue to trust and add value to the functionality of our homes.

Back in 2019, IKEA launched the Glesvär dresser line with specially designed safety features to decrease furniture tip-over accidents. The latest IKEA storage cabinet is also safe to use when anchored to the wall as per the assembly instructions. Furthermore, it includes added stability features through its custom hinge and doors.

Finished in white, GREÅKER will be available to customers in Europe and Asia Pacific starting this July and is anticipated to launch in North America in 2023. It is estimated to cost around $156.
